Potential 2019 Head coaches for the Browns

It truly is something I'm not exactly sure how to react to.

A coach, with a .600+ winning percentage, is publicly stating "Nah, I'm good on the Packers job......Cleveland is the only place I'm coaching again."

We truly are hitting what feels like a turning point. Ton of young talent, a franchise QB, a changing culture and coaches like Arians lining up to guide the ship.

It feels like it is going to be a really fun ride.
To be fair Arians wanted the job in 2013 when we really had none of those things and instead we hired Chudd for literally 1 year

Arians has just always wanted to coach in Cleveland. And we have outsmarted ourselves on it

I really like Arians as an option. It's important to remember he retired the winningest coach in Cardinals history due to health reasons. The year away might have given him some more juice, but he would really be a stopgap until father time cuts him down again and Freddie Kitchens is ready to take the next step.

So we've heard:
-Mike McCarthy (rumored due to connections with him and Dorsey)
-Bruce Arians (publicly campaigning for the job)
-Lincoln Riley (mentioned by Mayfield)
-Jim Harbaugh (mentioned by Cris Carter as being interested
-Josh McDaniels (floated out by Albert Breer)

And the openings are as of right now:
-Cleveland Browns
-Green Bay Packers

The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will likely join them in that realm. I do not see the Bengals firing Lewis and even if they do? They're hiring Hue, so best of luck dealing with that.

I know this sounds funny but I'm trying to figure out a manner in which one of those teams swoops in to grab McDaniels or McCarthy so we don't hear them in the conversation.

Call me crazy, but I could see McDaniels going to NY. Darnold has talent, just no one there that can develop him.

If I’m McDaniels I’m taking a job with a young QB like Darnold and not waiting around for the Patriots job. In New England he’s following a hall of fame coach plus when Brady retires that team will crumble. It’s an awful situation for him.

The Jets have a defense and a young qb that can be a star. That’s a good landing spot for him.

If I’m McDaniels I’m going to Green Bay if I can get it.

I just cannot take this guy seriously as a head coach candidate after the shit he pulled on Indy last year. That's not to mention the assistant coaches who had already signed with Indy to be on his staff before he pulled out. They got totally screwed in the deal. Finding assistants willing to trust him is going to be a real challenge for him to overcome if he gets another opportunity.

Indy was a perfect spot for McDaniels. If he wasn’t going to take that job he’s not taking another. He’s clearly been told he’ll be belichicks successor and wants that job.

So can someone please give me an actually football reason why Jim Harbaugh would be a bad coach here? Every time I see it suggested it’s met with resounding no’s. Are the Scarlett and gray glasses too blinding? He was looked at as one of the best coaches in the game in San Fran. Had a shitty Gm who couldn’t get him talent and butted heads. They haven’t been good since he left.

A few things:

1) game has passed him by. Even when he was with SF, he was running an archaic offense.

2) he has been a flat out failure at Michigan. His talent base is vast and superior to basically every college in America. And he hasn't done anything substantial there.

3) he is a certified head case. I think he is a distraction.

Couldn't get him talent?

In his first years as VP, Baalke drafted Dixon, Iupati and Navarro Bowman.

Then got Aldon Smith, Kaep and Kilgore in Yr 2

Those Harbaugh teams were loaded and their defense was fantastic.

He was a creep who players hated.

The offense seemed pretty modern at the time with kap running zone reads. I know he’s been old school at Michigan but he seemed ahead of the curve in San Fran. He didn’t exactly have a drop back accurate spread the field qb to work with.
