2017 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I don't care for a majority of ESPN's written content with the exception of a few writers, but this just made me curious about some thoughts from some posters here: What are some thoughts on facing New York in the DS if we snag AL1?

@Snarly
Better than Boston IMO. We're 7-2 against them without our big pieces for a majority of the games. Should be 8-1 but McCallister lost us a game in which Salazar has 12 SOs.

Plus Severino likely goes in WC game.

Lol reading through that article they make it sound like it's a good thing that their starters can go 4 1/3 innings. We had bullpen days last year because everyone was hurt not because it was our best strategy

This was my favorite quote

"In essence, even if the Yankees have to use ace Luis Severino to get past the wild-card game, they'd have a chance against the Indians because, although they'd be weaker to start games, they could go mano-a-mano in the middle and late innings."

Like literally lol. They may be weaker to start the games but they might just be able to go toe to toe with the Indians after 5 innings!!

That writers basically just trying to keep the conversation moving

Their bullpen is top notch and I'd definitely be sweating if we're down 2+ runs going into the 6th.

In a 5 game series we'd likely be looking at Gray - CC/Tanaka - Severino - Gray - CC/Tanaka

Avoiding Severino in Game 1 would be huge. He looked very good in both starts vs. us this year, until we got to him in the 7th last meeting.

Their bats do not worry me in the slightest.

The Royals also lost so we have a little bit of breathing room -- although not as much as we'd all like. There are still some concerns.

About them not finishing 25 GB

Yankees have the luxury of starting Severino in that game as they should have the WC Home Field wrapped up a few days before the season ends. And if they don't, Sonny Gray is not a bad backup plan.

Who would the Angels start if they were to get in, assuming their #1 pitches to clinch their spot? Who even is their #1? I think Minnesota would have a better chance with Santana or Berrios on the bump.

In looking up some tie breaking procedures, I found something interesting that I actually didn't know was a thing.

If 2 teams tie for a division lead at the end of the season, they automatically play a tie-breaker, even if the loser is guaranteed a wild card spot.

So if the Twins take Wild Card #2, and the Yankees and Red Sox tie for the AL East lead (and both have a better record than Minnesota), then they'd play a game to determine the AL East champ. Then, the loser would host Minnesota, and we'd play the winner of that game (assuming we hold on to #1, of course). So we'd either get Minnesota or a team who just had to play 2 extra games.

That's potentially huge.

I think so.

It started when I was arguing with Mar and Real Deal back in '14 when Jose got recalled when the rosters expanded. They both said Jose would never be a Major League everyday player and I thought they were wrong. Things got pretty heated for a little while.

I believe Mar then said Jose always has a look on his face like he smells something awful and started calling him Stinky P.

They also tried to convince people that I am related to Jose because I was such a Jose defender.

Fun times

This is accurate. I thought he would be a career minor leaguer. One of the few times I've ever been wrong in my life.

As he is now arguably a top 5 MVP candidate this year, I will have to put the Stinky P nickname to rest.
