2017 MLB Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Started the day with 2 signable HS pitchers who both appear to be headed to Juco's, so I think we sign both when all is said and done...both have projection bodies. 6'4, 6'5 guys who are lean.

Took a Juco catcher who put up pretty absurd numbers.

Grabbed 4 college pitchers, 2 I think will be relievers...one is interesting because he was a 2 way player, so has some projection left.

But the most interesting pick they made was the HS SS they grabbed in round 14. Big frame, strong arm, fast, good bat speed, but lacks consistency at the plate. Could pitch if he fizzles out as a position player (touching 93 as a pitcher). But signed with Georgia Tech, so might be a tough sign with the limited pool money.

In typical Indians fashion, they are grabbing a ton of guys off of BA's Top 500 list...

How do you like the two catchers we have gotten so far? Sorry I want to be up to date with out minor leagues, I just don't have the time to be and outside of numbers and random videos, that's all the info I can get.

Question;

If you go to college, and don't get drafted after year 2, you have to wait until year 4, right?

b00bie mentioned the Florida C a page back I believe. I'd take his word more than mine, as I am sure he's seen more college baseball than I have this year.

The Juco guy they got hit .411/.549/.858 this year, with as many HRs and SBs as Ks (14), while drawing 44 BBs, which is absurd. Caught 20 of the 31 runners who tried to steal off of him.

Obviously the competition isn't that much in the NJCAA, but still absurdly impressive numbers, especially the BB:K ratio. Short, stout built guy kind of like Mejia...he's more offense than defense, while the Florida guy is more defense than offense.

Expect the Florida C to be the C for the important prospects who pitch for Mahoning Valley this year, while the Juco kid is in the AZL.

Just need to be enrolled for 3 years, or turn 21 to be eligible if you go to college, whichever comes first.

Who are your sleepers in our draft? Who is likely to sign and who do you doubt we will sign?

I like how the organization has been drafting for the last few years, hopefully they can keep it up.

Indians themselves said after that they expect to sign around 35.

Top 10 for sure gets signed. Think top 13 all get signed. Highest pick I have doubts on if we sign is the 14th rounder, Serratos.

Think we miss on Lacy (31) and Turney (34) for sure, maybe miss on Serratos (14), Ferguson (25), Opitz (27), Cooper (33), Strider (35), Arellano (36), and Martin (37)...just never know how many HS guys you can sign in the 2nd half of the draft...if we sign 4, its a major win. Think we have a good shot with 3 of them.

Sleeper for me is Jonathan Teaney. 20th round pick, one of the nations leaders in K/9 at a good baseball school at the U of San Diego. Already signed too.

Well it seems like we signed 3 guys on 6/19, 17 Round pick CF Pedro Alfonseca, 25th round pick RHP Chandler Ferguson and 29th round pick CF Tre Gantt. It seems like we got one of the guys you thought we may miss out on.

This is a random question for you @BimboColesHair. Do you think the draft is still to long, being 40 rounds plus compensation/balancing picks they have now? We rarely see the later round guys, so I wanted an honest opinion from someone who pays a lot more attention to it. Also should MLB do what the NBA does and have every player who wishes to play in the pros have to go through the draft if they are under the age of 25?

How is our signing of players going so far? Seems like we have a fair amount of the players signed.

Indians have signed 26 players to this point. Holmes and Freeman are in Cleveland currently, so they should be signing soon. Florida's catcher will probably sign quick now that the CWS is over. Goal is still 35, and they're approaching that.

Anyone left that you think is a must sign?

Jason Knapp was neither drafted/signed by the Indians nor was recovering from Tommy John surgery.

He had shoulder surgery not TJ, which I know. My point was he was a guy who was a hard thrower who never could get back to normal from his injuries. If Rasmussen decides to stay in the pros and not go back to school we need to try out the kid and see what the doctors think, but if they think his outlook is positive then we should sign him. It never hurts to give the kid a chance.
