2018 Cleveland Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
More than anything, I'm just happy about the void of news between OTAs and Training Camp. Such a simple thing, but the Browns have had a very tough time making it through July without trouble in past years. It's not over, but I do appreciate the "business as usual" way the Browns have experienced the offseason.

Anyone else enjoying the living shit out of Le'Veon Bell screwing over the Steelers? I've been grinning all day.

That's the one good team in our division, and the engine that makes their offense click is about to hold out for as long as he feels like it.

Glorious...

I thought he was going to just play under the franchise tag..? If that's the case, everyone's favorite moral compass organization, Steelers, will ride him into the ground to make sure he doesn't come out on the right end of this negotiation.

It's still all up on the air.

Bell said on Twitter that "...2018 will be my best year yet!" pretty much saying that he will play under the franchise tag. But Schefter ALSO said yesterday that Bell may sit out at least the first 1/2 of the season to save the wear/tear on his body for '19 FA. So who really knows yet. It's without a doubt he will skip training camp/preseason.

But it looks like we may finally be getting Bell out of our division! His agent said this:

“His intention was to retire as a Steeler. But now that there’s no deal, the practical reality is, this now likely will Le’Veon’s last season as a Steeler,” Adisa Bakari said, via Schefter. “It became clear the Steelers wanted to pay the position, not the player.”

For whatever team wants to pay him next year, they better be ready to pony up some cash!

"The offer from the Steelers was worth a total of $70 million over five years (or $14 million per season). Although the offer would have given Bell the largest multi-year contract of any running back in the NFL, he turned it down, and one reason he likely did that, is because it was nowhere near his asking price, which was reportedly in the neighborhood of $17 million per season."

Next highest paid RB doesn't even come close to that per year. Freeman makes $8m/yr.

The only person who he’s screwing over is his self. They’ll probably replace 70% of his production with a 5th round pick and find someone else to do the rest.

This is pure fantasy. There's no Deangelo Williams ready to step in this time. That team without Bell is a shell of itself, and Bell knows it. That's why he's twisting the knife.

They'll be content to let 2018 Ben with 250k miles on his odometer, sit back there and throw 60 times, take all that punishment and try to bail out a defense that gave up 45 points to Blake Bortles in the playoffs.

This is what the end looks like, boys. I hope the rats drown when they jump off the bandwagon.

I'm not so sure they drafted James Connor in the 3rd round last year to be a bench-warmer. They think he can play. We can cut him down because he's not a notable name, but that team isn't wasting a pick like that on a skill player they don't intend to use.

I respect the kid for what he's been through and it's an incredible story, but I'm not convinced he's an NFL RB. Small sample size and all that, but LeVeon Bell is the best RB in the NFL and the best the Steelers have ever had.

We shall see.

Actually, screwing over the Steelers would’ve been signing their 5 year $70 million offer.

Paying a 26 year old running back that ruins franchise flexibility and I’d have loved it.

Too bad he’s greedy as fuck.

ESPN has a future franchise ranking. Of course philly is the #1 because they won the super bowl. The rest isn’t behind the insider pay wall. Any idea where the browns are?

I... dont get this. He's an automatic threat to lead the league in rushing, TDs and receptions by a RB every year, and likely will be until he's 30. He takes that offense from good to downright scary. Might be their best player.

We're not talking about a run of the mill talent here, and between him and Antonio Brown, they've made Ben's twilight years a LOT more productive than they should have been. I think we've gone a bit overboard with the whole positional value thing.

As long as the final outcome is Bell leaving the division after this season, that's a win to me. I dont care how it happens. I'm tired of the Browns losing to that franchise, and if he leaves that's a huge hit to their offense.
