2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We cannot draft Equanimeous, I would have zero chance of spelling his name correctly.

Notre Dame fans call him EQ, if that helps. His numbers won't be as high as others because their young QB loves to tuck and run. Sutton has been making the biggest impression so far this season.

The depth at the position could cause the Browns to look elsewhere in the first round, a top corner is harder to find than an outside receiver. That said, the Browns receivers have been brutal for a long time. Kizer needs protection, but he needs weapons badly.

Might as well just pay him in the off-season if that

Yeah, and I think putting a huge sum of money toward a WR at this point in the rebuild would be a bad overall move, especially when good receivers are available every year in the first two rounds of the draft.

While we are on the subject of 2018 prospects, I was surprised to find out the son of Orlando "Zeus" Brown is the left tackle who beat the everliving shit out of Ohio State last weekend. He looked like his dad out there, just too big and too strong. I'm not big on drafting an offensive lineman early right now... but Zeus Junior looked like the real deal.

OLine probably isn't what we should go for until day 3 when it is always the BPA. Rod Johnson is a developmental guy they drafted so we eventually may see how he progresses (not sure if the injury year will help or him in the long run) Do you see Coleman being able to move to the left side?

Honestly though in the draft I want WR, RB, CB, S after that its BPA, but I think those four spots are like the first 4 picks we have in my mind. Do you see any bigger safeties that can fit in the 4-2-5/maybe play LB as well?

I do think they should start to consider looking for Thomas' replacement. He's not getting any younger and we just don't know how many years the guy has left at a high level.

Not saying it necessarily has to be this spring or in the first round, though, obviously.

The big issue with OL will be supporting a raw prospect that comes from a spread offense and learns to put his hand in the dirt and play a pro style offense. It takes time, and that's why I'm glad the Browns drafted line prospects the past two drafts. I'm hoping those investments pay off as this season progresses. Coleman wasn't great, but I feel like he's really going to be learning on the job this season and peaking next.

With safeties, everyone knows Florida State's Derwin James is the crown jewel for defensive prospects. I'm a big Minkah Fitzpatrick fan because in a cover three, he can play like a free safety who also drops into man coverage like a corner. I need to watch more college football to find my #3.

I'd really love to grab the top WR and top CB in this upcoming draft. I have a feeling that we'll be picking something like 7 and 12 between our pick and our Texans pick. So whoever is the best at those positions should be our priority.

At some point in this upcoming draft, I'd really start considering a OT to get ready to be Thomas's eventual replacement.

Asking for a little bone thrown my way on this from the members like @AZ who are more knowledgeable. Does anyone have a list of say, 5 of their top CB and WR to watch this season? Thanks in advance

WR:

Calvin Ridley - Alabama - Will already be 23 as a college junior in December, pretty old for his eligibility. One of the more polished guys, but never quite developed into the premier guy I thought he would. Still a top two round guy and a future NFL starter

Deon Cain - Clemson - The premier deep threat in college football. Elite hands and tracks the deep ball at an NFL level right now. Needs refinement in the route tree, with his footwork. But he's the best receiver in this class for me right now.

Courtland Sutton - SMU - Probably 1B for me in this class, he's a bit more of a body catcher than Cain. Bigger and stronger than DC, he's a large target and would fit nicely in the Kenny Britt role.

Simmie Cobbs - Indiana - He's got some history with the law and drugs, but he might be the most talented player overall at the position. If he's right, and the character issues can be addressed and are in the past, he's a late first, early second round guy for me.

Allen Lazard - Iowa St. - Big and physical, another fit for the Britt role in this offense. Not quite as talented as the other guys, but extremely consistent as a performer and will be a future starter with the right NFL fit.

St. Brown isn't a GUY for me. Kirk is okay, probably a second day prospect. Jester Weah is a guy who could be intriguing in the middle rounds.

I think Calvin Ridley could very well be off the Browns board due to age alone. We've had a bit of a sample size now with Browns picks in the top 2 rounds, and all of their picks are both young (only Ogbah was 22 years old before the draft) and freakishly athletic. Aside from Kizer, since QB traits are so different than the SPARQ testing traits that all other positions rely on, I think Ogbah was the only sub 90th percentile pick we had and he was still 80+.

Based on all of that, I'd say Deon Cain and Courtland Sutton really fit the bill.
