2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Has anything thought about the possibility of the Browns trading back if they have a Top 5 pick?

Imagine a QB needy team wanting to get up into the Top 10 for Lamar Jackson, Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen.

Browns could conceivably trade their highest pick (let's say 5th overall), for first round picks in each of the next two years (in addition to that team's first this year) while still conceivably having another Top 10 pick this year.

For a draft light on elite defensive talent and Wide Receiver, the Browns two biggest needs, they could solidify value for the next two years while still having two first round picks this year.

*Browns trade back to the 15-25 range for an additional package of future picks.

1 (10s) - Sam Hubbard - DE - Ohio State - Freakish athleticism coming off both ends of the Browns line is too good to pass up. Absolutely a stud in every facet of the game, and will make one of the best pairs of ends in the game.

1 (15-25) - Jaire Alexander - CB - Louisville - Probably the best cover corner I've seen coming into the year. Better than Kevin Toliver, or McFadden at FSU, or Iman Marshall at USC. The latter two I would also consider for this pick.

2 (40s) - Deon Cain - WR - Clemson - Elite deep speed and hands makes him a valuable weapon in the Hue Jackson downfield attack.

2 (40s) - Royce Freeman - RB - Oregon - Low to the ground with power, and getting to play behind a much improved offensive line this year. Knows how to run downhill and would be a great fit for Jackson's offense as a replacement for Crowell.

2 (50s) - Maurice Hurst - DT - Michigan - Stout defender who is finally getting a chance to dominate full time on that line. Adds to the depth up front with Larry O, Coley and Shelton.

3 (70s) - Jamar Summers - CB - Connecticut - Another guy from UCONN who is going to destroy the combine, and adds to the depth the Browns need to build in the secondary.

He's already agreed to a 5 year/$81 million extension with Houston that makes him the highest paid receiver in the game.

Forgot he signed that.

Yeah, that's a tough sell, especially at this point in the rebuild. Still, Hopkins is amazing when he has half-decent QB play.

Considering the Browns have traded back in the first round three times in the first two years of this regime, I'd say this is more than just a possibility.

Really think it sets up perfectly to do so, especially if those QBs are on the board.

To add draft value for multiple years and still own a couple of mid first round picks this year is a fantastic value.

This dude is a third round pick right now.

That makes me sad, he is such an incredible runner.

Please stop posting negative things about players I have a man crush on even if legit like this, lol.

Well, if it's any consolation, once in a decade talents like Zeke, Fournette, and Barkley seem to come around every year or so....
:chuckle:

I mentioned this on the night of the draft. I truly believe that The Browns will have multiple first round picks in every draft for the future. Their goal is to be in position to acquire talent and to position themselves so that teams will be forced to deal with them because we will be owning the draft. I think right now we own almost 15% of the first two rounds of the draft. At least one of those first and second round picks will be made and the others will be used to set up the next draft.

The real kicker is that currently there is no team in the league who is better positioned than us if an All Pro player became available. Like an Aaron Donald or even a OBJ. If teams decided they don't want to play players of that caliber or move on for whatever reason, we can offer the absolute best packages and still maintain our war chest of picks. Add that to the fact that we currently have the second highest amount of cap space and we are the youngest team in the league with our best players locked up long term.

Annnnnnd the two best teams in our division have aging breaking down QB's with no successors ready while the third team might be the worst team in the NFL :)

It was funny when some of us said we could be pushing for a playoff spot this year but in four weeks after CIN, NYJ, IND, HOU there is a very realistic chance that we could be in position to be a playoff team. Yes that's wishful thinking but if you watch those four teams play there's no way we shouldn't be the favorites in those games. Plus after last night that Ravens win over CIN looks less impressive. Joe Flacco won't be 100% all season and I have a feeling GW is going to sick the hounds on his ass on Sunday.

Oh and we're doing all this without Myles Garrett. I probably sound like a serious homer right now, but this season I just don't get that feeling that a lot of these teams are scary. I've never seen this many teams that beatable this early in the season. We shall see though.

Eventually if you become New England where you are in the playoffs every year and competing for the title, it is very hard to have multiple firsts as your firsts are not valuable enough to bring back the huge haul we are getting.

That said, I would love to have that problem.

That's where your second and third round picks come in handy. Stock up at talent at premium positions like pass rushers and QB's then later on flip them for future picks before they are due to get paid. I would draft the best QB available with one of our seconds next year. Why? because some team is going to knock your door down to get him.

Don't care what they do.

Trade the picks, make the picks, whatever. Currently, I do like their stockpiling, but it means zilch if they draft stiffs.

Keep drafting good players and everything will be fine. If they trade down, make sure you STILL get a good player. No passing on elite players by trading down only to draft a mediocre guy.

That's when you start selling your second round picks for next year's first rounder. Teams make short-sighted trades like that all the time and the Browns can definitely take advantage of it.

The Jets have been trying to master this strategy without much success.

I was just thinking that. How awesome would it be if the Wentz trade just keeps on giving and we get that extra 1st round pick every year as a return on investment? There's always that stupid team every year that tries to jump a few spots and is too worried about winning now to worry about next year, and Sashi and co have done a fantastic job of betting against them.

Tuned into Virginia vs. UConn to watch some of your boy, but the Virginia passing attack has him neutralized. The DB standing out is on the other team, safety Quin Blanding for Virginia. One of the best DBs I've seen so far this season, just a SS though.
