2018 MLB Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How does that work? I feel like that would be a NCAA violation since they’re petty like that.

Well we would definitely not want to compromise the spirit of amateurism in having them accept money for his services.

He's even entitled to work with an agent to negotiate his deal while still maintaining his amateurism in the eyes of the NCAA, and he's been pretty widely connected to Scott Boras.

Not sure if he can utilize the Boras Corp to help him negotiate a deal, without ever signing with him, then cutting ties before resuming the football career as an amateur.

Not exactly sure to what lengths the agent can be in business with the player, and they certainly can't have any additional benefits which extend beyond the negotiation of this deal.

Its not. You can't be a pro in the sport you are competing in. Brandon Weeden played pro baseball then went back and played NCAA football. Drew Henson was in the Yankees minor league system while he was hampering the career of Tom Brady at Michigan.

The issue for the As is do you hand 5 million to a guy who could suffer a major injury playing college football? I can't imagine they took him without planning to let him play, so apparently it is a risk they were prepared to take. Or maybe they just say 'f it', don't sign him and take a comp pick next year.
Yeah I was always confused with the Weeden thing too. Thanks for clearing it up.

The way too early timeline on these guys..is this reasonable?

Noah Naylor - 2021
Ethan Hankins - 2022
Lenny Torres Jr - 2024
Nick Sandlin - Late 2018/19 if he heads back to the pen

I like Torres talent but man does he need a lot of work mechanically, especially in his lower body. His leg kick and drive are horrendous, which would lead me to believe he can generate ALOT more easy power. I love him as a long term prospect but it's tough seeing Griffin Roberts then go to an organization like St Louis right after. I might have gotten greedy there and taken Roberts. He seemed like a really nice candidate, similar to Sandlin, to shift to relief work full time and rocket through a system / inject life in to the pen.

I suppose they went with a mix here of youth and possible immediate help. I like all the players we took, Roberts just has two plus major league pitches and SO rate....I commend the FO for not getting itchy there if Torres was their guy. I would have been really tempted to take Roberts, knowing how god awful our pen is right now.

2021 seems like a rather aggressive TL for Naylor. I’d assume 2023.

The Indians have shown themselves to be pretty conservative with their hitting prospects, especially their prep picks.

Friend of mine named Adam Wolf went to high school at Edison in Milan near Sandusky. Golfed against him a few times (he was very good) and he's been pitching at Louisville and is pretty damn good.

Anybody know anything about him maybe getting drafted?

First pick in the 5th to the Tigers

Probably right here....I also missed that he is still really young.

He won't turn 19 until February of next year.

10th Round-- RHP Robert Broom a Junior from Mercer
1.70 ERA, 74 IP, 111 SO, 24 BB

Another submarine/sidearm reliever similar to Sandlin. Tribe scouts must feel like they're on to something with these type of relievers....

I totally missed this joke. Does it involve sports coach? Because I have him on ignore
Sportscock said like a day before he got called up that it simply isn't in the cards that he plays in 2018 and there's just no chance to be sincere!!!

I actually said it like a week before if I may be sincere! At least get it right!!!

@BimboColesHair and @AZ_ how did this draft look to you guys? Any sleepers in the later rounds? Seems like 6th round and on we went with a lot of college kids. Any of those Left handed pitchers we got possibly any good long term?

116th Round - @sportscoach's thighs. Going to set a pretty aggressive timeline for these thighs, should see them blazing the base paths towards the end of the 2018 season. I envision them going from first to home on an infield chopper.

Jim Callis thinks they did pretty good. Other teams would he felt did well were the Rays, Royals and Athletics.

4. Indians
Besides Tampa Bay and Kansas City, Cleveland was the only other club with multiple first-rounders, which it used on one of the best all-around high school bats (Canada catcher Noah Naylor) and the best fastball in the Draft (Georgia right-hander Ethan Hankins, who also has a nifty changeup). After that, the Indians mixed another hard-throwing prep righty (New York's Lenny Torres, supplemental first round), premium college performers (Southern Mississippi right-hander Nick Sandlin, second; Towson shortstop Richie Palacios, third; Wofford left-hander Adam Scott, fourth) and promising high school bats (Florida third baseman Raynel Delgado, sixth; Texas outfielder Korey Holland, 14th).
