#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am an OSU and Browns fan. I also support all Cleveland sports and essentially grew up on them. Living in NYC, I make every attempt to see a Cleveland team when they come to the city. Some of my most fond memories of my childhood were shared with my Dad watching and going to Browns, Cavs and Indians games. I'll never forget all Browns/Indians games I saw at the old Municipal Stadium.

With that being said, I could care less what a Steeler or Michigan player does to a logo or says about Cleveland. Honestly, a Steeler player could take a shit on the Browns logo at a midfield and wipe his ass with an OSU t-shirt one year and then sign with the Browns the next. If it helps make the team better and more enjoyable to watch - so be it. Im a fan of sports, but maybe not as hardcore as others. As I mentioned - I find it odd for people to take sports so personally. Winning or losing will not ruin my day, force me to drink heavily or even get into an argument/fight. That is just not my personality, because at the end of the day - it is all supposed to just be entertainment.

That is just my .002 cents.
Does this apply to Joakim Noah? Because fuck that guy

I can't imagine holding a grudge against someone for where they went to school or how they acted in a rivalry game. This is a business, he's on my team now so bet your ass I'm going to make him feel welcome now.

Except Manziel, fuck that guy.

People don't dislike Peppers because he went to Michigan. They dislike him because he is probably the single most overrated player in the history of College Football. His lack of production on defense was very alarming and is why many did not want the Browns to draft him.

Hard to call a guy drafted near the end of the first round the most overrated player ever. If he were that overrated, he would have went a lot higher.

Agreed. Every year we seem to have one guy like that in the draft. Solid performance + unbelievable hype with one major flaw that dropped his stock; no defined position, not enough starts, loves Jesus too much, fake girlfriend, etc.

I don't even think Peppers was the most overrated player in the first round of his own draft. I think that award goes to Mike Williams. Subpar measurables, couldn't get separation in college, wasn't dominant in college the way you expect a top-tier WR prospect to be...not saying Mike Williams can't be a good NFL player, as it's definitely possible he continues to make contested catches in the league like he did in college, but he should not have been a top ten pick in the NFL draft.

Additionally, major injury in college.

Mike Williams going in the top ten was a travesty. At least Spanos is the one to pay for it, fuck that guy.

The one positive is that I can at least see his fit in that offense. He'll be a nice red zone weapon for them if he can get healthy and stay that way. But drafting him in the top ten was a terrible decision. I'd have rather them drafted Howard there, though. I know they've got Hunter Henry, but Howard is light years ahead of Henry as a TE prospect and Gates will likely be retired after this season. The only knock against Howard is that he wasn't dominant in college, but he also played on a team that doesn't really utilize its TEs in the passing game much, and when they called upon him to do work he always answered the bell. I think he would have given them everything Mike Williams will give them in the receiving game but much more as well, as he's a great all-around TE prospect.

This means nothing if you do not understand the role he was asked to play in Don Browns defense and the role he will be asked to play in Gregg Williams defense. While both are technically "Safeties" by name, Peppers and Hooker played two entirely different roles on their teams defense. Comparing their stats or INT totals is pointless and tells us nothing. Both have the opportunity to be elite players in the NFL but just like in college, they will be being asked to perform vastly different schematic roles.

In College. The NFL Draft isn't College.

Interceptions are one metric.

And understanding scheme and looking at the impact players playing the role in Gregg Williams defense have for that defense while rarely getting interceptions is a better one. It's like you're stuck in a bar arguing with a Michigan fan about who's better, Hooker or Peppers. In reality, they are practically incomparable due to the massive difference in schematic deployment and responsibility given by their DC's. Let it go. It's apples and oranges.

Peppers will be employed similar to Blaine Bishop, how was with Williams through almost a decade and several all pro years. In his 3 All Pro years he had TWO int's total. In Bishop's final All Pro year under Williams in Ten(2000), Bishop had ZERO int's and the TEN D was ranked #1 in the NFL in in yards allowed and #2 in points allowed. In Williams scheme, that Bishop role(which Peppers will be used in) does not play at all like a traditional FS and not even like a traditional SS. But it's hard to argue with it's instrumental nature in his scheme and the results it's produced over the years.

Dude, you brought up Hooker, not me. You're arguing with yourself :chuckle:

I've already argued against drafting a player based on how he fits an unorthodox DC so I won't rehash that.

You're biased. Probably the most biased person on the board when it comes to OSU.

I doubt that. You are certainly a blind optimist when it comes to the Browns, though.

It's may be partially blind. But I believe in what they're doing his time around, and I trust this front office just based on the moves they've made thus far for us.

There's something different this time around. You don't sense it as well?
