#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It just feels like something positive is going to happen every single time Pepper touches the ball. He was solid on D tonight as well.

Peppers is a key component in the 4-4 defense and its variations.

Greg Williams must be getting annoyed trying to explain how it works to the press.

every answer Greg gives them on Peppers role. describes the "will" position role in a base 4-4 scheme,

I like what I see.

He makes an impact any time he is near the ball and he is looking like a gem of a returner.

I kinda wish we played him more at corner to help develop his coverage skills.

Can't teach those instincts. Peppers seems to be involved in the play anytime the ball comes near him. He also looks like the best return guy we've had since Cribbs.

I like his tenacity and his fearlessness. Rare for a rookie to possess both of those right off the bat. He's pretty physical for being slightly undersized.

The thing that should get people most excited about Peppers is just how useful he looks, WHILE being such a raw player in the secondary.

You can tell he's a little too "techniquey" right now in his coverage drops. One thing that shows up on the coaches film is his lower body is a little too active in pass coverage. That again is not a bad thing but it is the hallmark of a secondary player who is a little anxious / inexperienced. When he relaxes and just reads / reacts, he could be pretty special.

His athleticism also just jumps off the screen, even in the NFL. I'm not sure the Browns have ever had this much pure athletic talent on defense. I'm not sure how good they'll be this year but I suspect just having Garrett and Peppers make otherworldly athletic plays will get us through this season. :chuckle:

Was just thinking this last night. We're about another draft's worth of 80th+ percentile SPARQ defenders from having the most athletic defensive unit in the NFL. Obviously we're lacking in the cornerbacks and at one safety position, but every other defensive starter is just a freak athlete. I know it was just the preseason, but it really felt imposing how we were able to close distance whenever NYG tried to do something.

I'd also appreciate if they didn't let Erick Flowers "block" Garrett with an arm around the neck. Our defense would have looked downright unstoppable without that.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the secondary so far. Holding Marshall/OBJ/Shepard/Eli under 100 yards in the first half is impressive. A semblance of a pass rush finally, a healthy Haden, and the addition of McCourty has seemed to do the job so far, and I was standing on the table yelling for DBs as much as anybody during the draft.

Amateur, didn't you learn anything from Shanahan? You have to POUND the table for the players you want.

Assuming Kizer does enough to be who we build around at QB, we are positioned SOOOOOOO well to solidify a completely lights out defense next season.

Browns 1st: Best edge rush talent to pair with Garrett
Texans 1st: Best Corner

Or at least that is what I hope we do, assuming Kizer is our QB moving forward.
