#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Assuming Kizer does enough to be who we build around at QB, we are positioned SOOOOOOO well to solidify a completely lights out defense next season.

Browns 1st: Best edge rush talent to pair with Garrett
Texans 1st: Best Corner

Or at least that is what I hope we do, assuming Kizer is our QB moving forward.

Yeah let's not invest at all in the offense that has the worst playmakers in the league.

Let's see where we are and what happens with Crow + Barkley/Guice production/health this season.

Would not mind going CB/RB or RB/CB in first round.

Wait, you guys aren't counting Gordon as our playmaker on offense followed by a suitable surrounding of Coleman, Britt, and poopdick?

I think we're pretty set with edge rushers.

Plenty of glaring needs on this team still with offensive playmakers and in the secondary on defense.

Just don't think you need to spend 1st round picks on offensive playmakers.

Browns will have 3 second round picks. Plenty of good TE's, WR's, RB's to be had there.

I'd rather invest the more valuable capital in premium defensive positions.

There are a ton of potential QB's in next years draft, which should push a lot of 1st round skill players in to the 2nd.

Depending on where these picks fall, I'm not against moving around the draft some more. Let's keep this pick stockpile rolling! Just keep getting one more strike than the rest of the league and you'll notice the talent disparity quickly.

I think it depends on what offensive playmakers are available.

But I'm fine with spending the 1st round picks on defense. Just, use them on secondary players.

Since when do you determine which side of the ball your first round pick will be on a year before the draft, before any games are played and before we know where the Browns are picking?

Seems to me if the BPA where the Browns pick is on offense and he's an impact player at a position where the Browns are weak, the Browns should take him.

There is no need to force a first round WR pick in 2018 but if a true AJ Green, Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson type is available then take that player.

As far as I'm concerned, barring significant injury or a true generational talent being available, there is no need to take a DL, LB, or TE in the first round. I'm almost there with OL too but it depends on Joe Thomas's health and I won't freak out if they take a LT with their second 1st.

So while you don't predetermine what position you'll pick by round, to me the positions we'll be considering in the first are: QB, CB, S, WR, RB

Plenty of good TE's, WR's, RB's to be had there.

Barring anything crazy happening, Barkley can come out and have an impact like Zeke, and let's see on Cook/Fournette.

He is a smaller RB, but is a m'fing freak. He can be great.

If he has another standout season, don't overpay on Crow and draft him. Then 100% get your CB w/other 1st round.

It's pretty easy to do when you've already determined what positions are likely to be readily available in the second round. Also a year before the draft and before any college games have been played.

One thing that hurt Jabril is how good our line was doing there wasnt as many opportunities for Jabril on defense.

But what i did see i liked.

We should have a contest to see how many penalties for illegal hit Jabril will get this year. He is an old school head hunter trying to not be, I am going to guess 4.

Drafts are largely the same year in and year out, when assessing positional values. I was operating under the assumption of "let's assume Kizer does enough to build around".

If you scratch QB off the list, I just don't see the value in chasing first round skill players (WR, RB, TE) with where we will likely be picking.

If there's a Calvin Johnson? Sure.....but your "average" year in year out #1 ranked WR? I'd pass on that guy in the first and take more of a blanket approach in the second. Snag a combination of skill guys and hope 1-2 pan out.

We know our FO is analytic heavy and CMU has done a ton of research on positional values. RB, WR and TE are typically ranked at the bottom 3 position groups when talking value in top of the 1st round.

Obviously that isn't the end all be all.....it's just food for thought. Some teams have been taking RB's earlier recently but historically speaking, second day is where you nab those guys. Zeke is more the exception. He was the ONLY 1st round RB in the top 10 in rushing last season.

Again, it's just my opinion the skill guys can wait (save for a generational guy like Calvin Johnson). I'll underscore it's just an opinion though.....many people have a different one.

Peppers caught Winston’s misfire for the interception and he closed quickly for a third-down stop in the passing game, but perhaps the big story for Peppers is how much deep safety he’s playing. 35 of his 37 snaps came at free safety, making it 77 of 81 snaps so far this preseason. Peppers was expected to be more of a box safety coming out of college, but he’s showing well in more of a true free safety role.

Really interesting tidbit from PFF. I absolutely love what I've seen so far, his sure tackling is a welcome change from last year's disastrous safety play.
