#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
BUT HE WENT TO...MICHIGAN....AND THEY CAN'T FIND A POSITION FOR HIM TO PLAY! ALSO HE'S ON THE LEAN!

I never want to hear football opinions from those people ever again.

Just don't think you need to spend 1st round picks on offensive playmakers.

Browns will have 3 second round picks. Plenty of good TE's, WR's, RB's to be had there.

I'd rather invest the more valuable capital in premium defensive positions.

There are a ton of potential QB's in next years draft, which should push a lot of 1st round skill players in to the 2nd.

Honestly I disagree since our defense will be way ahead of our offense this season. We will need secondary help maybe around guys like Peppers but overall the rest of the defense should be solid. We may end up doing more 4-3 than 4-2-5 since we lack depth in the secondary, but with 5 picks between the first two rounds and cap space, we can use that to finish the defense.

I think using most of the early picks next season on offense may be the best idea depending on who is available in free agency and if we resign Crowell/he shows he can be a top RB in this league. He has no more excuses not to be behind the line we have. My first round would hopefully get us a number 1 WR and a number 1 SS if I had the choice since Peppers will be a FS it seems.

I think they are going to use DeValve as the primary receiving TE this year.

I understand that. DeValve isn't a strong blocker (not that Barnidge was necessarily a stud) & neither is Njoku. Telfer will handle most blocking duties, especially in 2 TE sets, but he hasn't proved to be a reliable receiver. Barnidge would have clogged-up the reps for the young guys had he been here, so I know why they'd cut him.

...then why did they cut their starting TE? Me thinks they expected him to at least be able to hold his own. Just like how the team is looking to trade for a WR after drafting 4 of them last year and signing Kenny Britt, I think they aren't going to wait 3 years on him. He doesn't have to be studly this year but has to at least show enough to stay on the field.

Edit: forgot about DeValve, fair point. I don't think, though, that they have a 3 year plan in mind with him with how much they seem to like 2 TE sets with the young QBs.

They cut their starting TE because he can't block, it had nothing to do with Njoku other than serving as a roster spot blockage they could adjust after the draft.

Telfer and DeValve are much better players at this point.

Not sure I'm onboard with taking a guy in the 1st that we don't expect to produce for 3 years if that's true.

Nobody is putting a three years marker out there.

He's the youngest player in the NFL, and he's not out of his first pre-season yet.

How about we give this one a little time?

Well, @Jack Brickman said 3 years. I never said anyone from the Browns put it out there, because they wouldn't do that even if it was true.

TEs rarely produce year one when it comes to the offensive part of the game. Hue knows what he is doing with TEs so I wouldn't worry about it. Njoku will get better as the season goes along and next season you will see probably a fair amount of improvement. I agree with b00bie, be patient but it won't be three seasons. If he is a good worker/coachable he will be ready year two to make a bigger impact especially since I believe we will end up with a WR day 1 to compliment who we have now.

Ps. It could be three years for him to be a top fantasy TE, but next season he will start making a fair amount of impact, but won't get all the snaps/throws.

Haven't we learned from the past to not crown players in the preseason?

Though at the same time there are still some on here who aren't crowning him, they are saying he will be a bust so we are good with that issue.

That's kinda what I'm getting at.

Just was stunned to see people write him off before he played a game really.

Well it didn't help guys like b00bie wrote him off completely before the draft. He is one of the most respected guys on here when it comes to player evaluations for the draft and he absolutely didn't want him. I personally thought he would be a target since with the fact he was a LB in college he fits the 4-2-5 scheme really well (@Lee was the first one to bring that up on the boards really once the defense system was explained).

That's another factor that is getting people to write him off. He didn't play much as a Safety in college so he had a limited number of plays in coverage and didn't have any interceptions since he wasn't back in coverage. The kid knows how to play football and will find his fit on the team. I hope he proves the haters wrong.

We have been running a 4-3 WAY more than the 4-2-5 people kept ranting on about.

Well, @Jack Brickman said 3 years. I never said anyone from the Browns put it out there, because they wouldn't do that even if it was true.

When you draft a TE, you can't realistically expect him to contribute in year one. It just rarely happens outside of the best of the best like Gronk. Most TEs take several years before they hit their stride. It's one of the toughest positions to learn, as you are essentially learning two positions wrapped into one.

TEs tend to break out some time during years two through four. Two or three are the most common among top prospects.

I realize that it sucks to draft a guy who may not pay real dividends for a couple of years, but that's the position. If you want an elite TE, you have to play the waiting game.

We don't have the right guys to play the 4-2-5 all the time hence why we have been doing 4-3. Greg Williams is playing to what he has hence why we are going to spend money/ high pick or two in next seasons draft to fix that
