It just feels like something positive is going to happen every single time Pepper touches the ball. He was solid on D tonight as well.
The thing that should get people most excited about Peppers is just how useful he looks, WHILE being such a raw player in the secondary.
You can tell he's a little too "techniquey" right now in his coverage drops. One thing that shows up on the coaches film is his lower body is a little too active in pass coverage. That again is not a bad thing but it is the hallmark of a secondary player who is a little anxious / inexperienced. When he relaxes and just reads / reacts, he could be pretty special.
His athleticism also just jumps off the screen, even in the NFL. I'm not sure the Browns have ever had this much pure athletic talent on defense. I'm not sure how good they'll be this year but I suspect just having Garrett and Peppers make otherworldly athletic plays will get us through this season.
Amateur, didn't you learn anything from Shanahan? You have to POUND the table for the players you want.I've been pleasantly surprised with the secondary so far. Holding Marshall/OBJ/Shepard/Eli under 100 yards in the first half is impressive. A semblance of a pass rush finally, a healthy Haden, and the addition of McCourty has seemed to do the job so far, and I was standing on the table yelling for DBs as much as anybody during the draft.
Is this the Haden farewell tour? The threat of him coming over also played a big part in that long incompletion on the pass to Marshall. I think he'll be just fine in this defense, he's looking better than I thought he would.
