Andre Iguodala on the market?

Now that would be something that would really improve us. Their pick would be enough to offset Brand in case he would suffer another injury.

AM Cleveland Cavaliers

The NBA trade deadline is 15 days away, but the Cavaliers may strike a deal earlier than that. Cleveland is talking to a bunch of teams and The Plain Dealer reports the team may make a decision about making a deal by the start of next week's All-Star break.

The Cavs are targeting shooting forwards and shooting guards with defensive skills. The names most often linked to Cleveland are Antawn Jamison (Wizards), Troy Murphy (Pacers)and Andre Iguodala (76ers).

I don't believe that there is a person on this board that couldve predicted Orlando's dominance over us. We could've possibly traded for Shaq before last years deadline. The series would've been completely different if we had that big load in the middle defending Howard. We would not have needed people to help out on Dwight leaving shooters open around the perimeter. Shaq has manhandled Dwight when they played this season showing us that he is perfect for that future playoff matchup.

Not that I'm trying to be a wise-ass or anything but I certainly did believe they would dominate us. I predicted us to LOSE in 6 games (that is exactly what happened).

Alot of people on the forums here got way to cocky. Just because we had the best record they thought we could beat anyone. They failed to realize that match-ups are huge in playoff series.

Most people here are getting over confident with this years team as well. Yes, we have beaten the Lakers twice. Boston looks old and finished. The VC trade for the Magic has looked awful. However, I refuse to believe that those things makes us the favorite.

Orlando beat the Lakers twice last year yet got whooped in the finals. We beat the Spurs in the 2007 regular season but got smacked in the finals.

Bottom line is that talent wins games in the playoffs. Besides for Lebron, we really don't have that much talent. We have a bunch of role players, several of them have choked in the playoffs plenty of times (Big Z). Others are way to inconsistent to rely on (Mo Williams).

Getting a guy like Iggy would help out tremendously. Anytime you have a chance to get a young, athletic, borderline all-star you do it.

Iggy's ability to put the ball on the floor and create for himself or others would be a huge asset in the playoffs. Especially when teams load up on Lebron, make him give up the ball and our guys miss open shots (it's happened before). Having another guy who can attack is vital.

Why do you guys think Delonte has arguably been our second best player in the playoffs???
The reason is simple, it's his ability and smarts to get to the rack. He doesn't settle for jumpers even when he's open. That is something Mo didn't do in the playoffs and still doesn't do.l

I love Delonte but there is no way the team should put their title hopes on a role player with an unstable mental state.

A Trade HAS to be made, otherwise we will regret it. Mark my words now!!!

Well actually a lot of guys on this site knew what was coming. We were almost helpless against top teams last year. This the exact opposite this year and I want us to separate us even more from the top. Trade has to be made (of course for good player).
Some posters are suggesting that we can improve after this season. We will be able to but we will improve over leftovers of this team. If we improve right now, we will build on top of current success not after it. Another positive on composing stronger team right now is that we can then attract good vet players this summer as addition by using MLE. With Mo, LBJ, possibly Z and Shaq back, one more really good player is key to draw those good vets in ring chasing. If no trade is made, we will have to use MLE for plugging really big hole in the core group.

only time pick is involved is brand...and we are trying to top 5 protect it at least..depending on the deal.

I really dont think the brand/pick thing is gonna happen. I think we are stuck with Brand.

There is a decent chance we are able to move dalembert with Iguodala.....for JRich and Amare. But that could be a two or three team deal like the Cleveland deal we talked about. Where we try and get some young talent as way(hickson, da. green etc)

Nothing will happen til after the AS break and other teams may enter the fray.

If we were to be the facilitators in a PHX/PHI deal, I guarantee Ferry would come out on top by getting something much better than what we give up. If we're sending out Z and young talent (Hickson), we should get one of Iggy or Amare. Ferry won't settle for less IMO.

the word is thats its a slow process

i think phoenix and cleveland the talks have been most substantial with

houston, dallas, portland somewhat in the background.

Aren't Z's expiring, Wally's bird rights, and J.J, our best assets?

No that would still leave us Delonte who IMO we would have to trade to get Iggy and Dalembert. I shouldn't have said best assets though, because it isn't quite what I meant I meant that we wouldn't have to scrap the depth of this team in order to get the deal done.

If we use the MLE it will nto be to add a young core player. There will not be that many of those available. what we will be doing is adding another vet to plug a hole on our roster either at SG or at PF. Most likely Haslem IMO because I am sure that he is out of Miamis plans and we have a very good chance to win a title.

This could be a (well, my) dream scenario where we get AI2 without having to give up JJ (or Delonte) and without having to take on Dalambert's contract. Dalambert seems like he might actually be useful in the Suns offense and (lack of) defense and would allow Frye to move back to PF where he would have more favorable defensive matchups.

And by bringing in Amare, I guess Philly is figuring it's a more sensational way for them to go into reboot mode? Selling it to their fans is easier? I honestly don't know what they are thinking.

What about this 3-way trade. Who says no?

Cavs Out
Z
Parker
Danny Green

Cavs In
AI2
Jason Smith

Philly Out
AI2
Jason Smith
Sammy D

Philly In
Danny Green
Amar'e
J-Rich

Phoenix Out
Amar'e
J-Rich

Phoenix In
Z
Sammy D
Parker
Philly's 2010 1st Rounder (protected)

The Cavs get AI2 and a young big prospect with some range.

Philly gets a way to reboot that is "sell-able" to their fans and a prospect they are supposed to be interested in in Green. The world gets to watch the egos of Iverson and Amar'e come together and make sweet love to the game of basketball.

Phoenix gets under the luxury tax and a good pick this year but can still field a team. We pretty much know they are going to buyout Z because it's required to get them under the tax. It's not like he fits their running offense either.

Phoenix gets Philly's 1st rounder and a bunch of cap relief for Amare/J Rich? I don't see why Phoenix likes this, especially if the pick is top 5 protected.

I'd love to do:

Cavs Get:
Iggy
Brand
Philly's 1st Round Pick (top 1 protected)

Philly Gets:
Z (buyout)
Moon
West
Wally (S&T)

I'll give them the top 1 protection - as I don't think they'll give up a chance at Wall. This is a good draft 2-8 or so, and I'd love to get another big from it.

Question: Can you negotiate a trade where the pick is top 1 protected, but if that protection is used we get 2 first round picks? (Say the 2011 and 2013 firsts?) - That would make more sense because putting Wall on that team would greatly decrease the value of those picks in the next few years.
