Andrew Wiggins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In another words for a guy who was regarded as a generational player he busted.

Which is why it's silly to put those sorts of labels on guys before they are drafted. If Wiggins is Rudy Gay, that shouldn't be a bad thing. Most #1 picks would be lucky to turn out so well.

This was brought up in the other thread, but if youre the wolves and you think LaVine is going to be better, do you look at trading Wiggins while his value is still so high. I wouldnt, not yet anyway, but if they still look awful all season and LaVine continues outplaying Wiggins i do in the summer.

I question Wiggins' motor.

I'm not saying it's bad, but I also don't think it's very good. It's a mediocre motor , if you will. And that sucks because a high motor with his skill and athleticism would be scary.

As far as the trade...I think we can shut the door on that debate. We made the finals and almost won, then we win the finals, and now Love is one of the best bigs in the league again tossing up a casual 22-12 and doing it in style. That trade is a rare case where both teams are very very very happy with the results.

I would say 50% or more of number 1 picks end up better than Rudy Gay.

That said, if Wiggins ends up that level, he is not a bust. Just not a generational player, which we knew when drafting or there wouldnt have been the Wiggins vs Parker debate.

There wouldn't have even been the 'Embiid is going first' parade until he broke his foot either

IMO, if CLE medical staff had not discovered the break in Embiid's foot, he's the first pick in that draft hands down; I also believe that CLE rolls with him and the Love trade is not made. We are seeing why now.

Of course, since the foot WAS broken and subject to future breaks, it actually was one of the greatest dodging of the bullet in NBA history. Not choosing Embiid was the first sign that the tide had turned on the city of Cleveland's sports fortunes.

A healthy Embiid without foot problems is a much more impactful player than Love, especially for this team.
He could dominate this weak GSW team by himself. The guy would have been something really really special if not for this injury.
He can still be very very good and maybe the best C in the league but it will always bother him and he will always be at risk.

I think it's more then that: LaVine looks like his equal or slightly better and he was taken what 10 spots after him.
Also Parker is starting to look like a beast: Parker has looked the better player this year with the ability to overpower smaller guys yet also take PFs/C off the dribble. Parker with Towns and LaVine would also be a better fit for them?

Honestly, I think the debate was between two possible generational players.

Absolutely, Parker at the 4 with Towns at the 5 and Lavine at the two guard. Parker is actually an underwhelming rebounder for his position. I think he's the more talented player than Wiggins and less redundant with lavine.

Lavine has the same shortcomings as Wiggins. Both don't defend or rebound, but zach is the better offensive player. He's a more efficient scorer, better ball handler and passer.

The wolves are in desperate need of perimeter defense so I don't think Parker helps them there, but to tell you the truth kat is slacking off too and didn't take that jump people expected thus far.

Why is Wiggins a bad defender: he has all the tools but guys eyes light up when he is on him. Is it a motor issue, stance, lack of lateral mobility?

Lack of fundamentals, effort, intelligence? This is the problem I have always had with Andrew Wiggins. I said as much in the draft process. The dude is hailed as this supreme athlete, but he rarely looks like this hyper athlete on the court. How is he putting his athleticism to use? He always seemed so spindly, and rarely actually getting up there unless it was an uncontested dunk.

Parker on the other hand was considered this sub par athlete, but always looked way more athletic in game. This dude was taking the ball coast to coast and yamming on people. That has translated to the nba. Parker is always looking to put guys on posters with his "sub-par athleticism." I've never seen Wiggins do this.

Check this out. This guy mentioned all the things that bothered me about Wiggins before we even drafted him. He barely actually uses his jumping ability:

Nate Duncan just fucked up the Wolves and Wiggins trade value.

Pretty devastating by Duncan there: he really seems to have a poor motor. Just very little energy or movement on defense or on the glass.

But man did you see how many highlights my man Jokic was in even though he wasn't supposed to be featured

If they took a measurement of distance traveled by jumping in the NBA (frequent flyer miles) Wiggins would be one of the least traveled per minute.
