Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What if he struggles in D League like he's struggling in summer league? Do we call him up and give him NBA minutes anyway? That sounds totally nuts to me.
If the kid can play and live up to his talent then he can play..

Many suggested he could have been a lottery pick if he was in college ?

Who knows ? But I’m not slowly massaging this dude’s career into existence... If he’s talented and can play at the NBA level then he can play.... If he can’t ? Get lost!

Dude wasn’t drafted, was advised to not participate in 5 on 5 during the pre draft stuff— so I’m not gonna kiss his ass and slowly bring him along because obviously SOMETHING is not right here...

I throw him out there and if he plays well, he plays well and then we can proceed... If not ?? NEXT.... Cause mystery Billy Preston might not be worth it

Getting him a little time to brush up in Canton before he's thrown out there is not going to kill him.

if he struggles in the d league then I doubt mgmt would call him up to the NBA
The kid was a 5 star recruit last year. He has tools. issue he has not played in 1.5 years at a high level and he was moved every year in High School and never had consistent coaching

yet he was still a 5 star recruit. The 2 way insures no one can poach him. Stash him down there and see how/if he develops. Low risk, high reward. very simple

He was one of 30 5-star recruits in his class, for the record (going by ESPN's rankings). Jalek Felton, another 5-star recruit, withdrew from UNC to play overseas a couple days ago. Should we have signed him to our other 2 way slot? I'm going to base my optimism on how well guys are actually playing not on some recruiting rankings.

I’m interested in seeing how he will do as a small ball 5 in certain situations.

From what I’ve seen, pretty poorly. He’s not a very good rebounder and not very strong. Offensively I’m sure he’d be fine.

He is a low risk high reward gamble, exactly like one you take in our situation.. if he turn out to be a rotation player, we essentially won the lottery. If he turns out to be a knucklehead, we lost near zero..

I would like to see him get 20-25 minutes a night. He has the talent, tools and athleticism to compete at a high level. I don't think starting him is going to hurt his confidence at all. This is a young team now let the kids have the keys.

Totally agree! @cavman , @Huber. , @David. and I have been "bushing up" for years and it hasn't killed us. Only a few clogged shower drains here and there...

You mean in Canton, right? Kid ain't ready for the NBA, and throwing him out there before he's ready can be even worse than him riding the pine.

Double clutch 3-pointer looked GOATish to me.

Don't be surprised when this kid gets locked up by management.

Every time i watch him i see the potential but i always come away disappointed and wanting to see more. He moves effortlessly but at the same time it looks like he's barely trying. Very interested in watching him develop at Canton this season.
