Dwyane Wade: Back to Riley (#CavsLifer)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't read the article, but from what you posted, I don't think that's what it says?

It sounds like the Cavs want to get Wade better shots (smart), and one of his adjustments is not being a #1/#2 option. But I do not think it says the goal is to get Wade eight more shots per game.

Wade actually hasn't been as bad as people think. He played a huge defensive role in the win against Boston, and he was solid against Milwaukee. The biggest problem so far - especially against the Magic - is his offensive game really hurts the team.

He looks great with the bench lineups, especially when he is the lead facilitator, but Shump has started to take that role.

The Cavs need to start doing two things for Wade: first, running more plays with him as a PnR ball-handler that lead to an open floor; second, play him as the lead facilitator for the bench unit.

If they don't do that, though, I do see a problem with Wade starting and playing like this. I am not worried, yet. But, I do understand everybody's concerns.
(Raises hand)

I see a problem with Wade starting.

Other than being LeBron's BFF, I'm having trouble finding a single qualifier that excuses Wade starting at this point for a title contender. As a ball handler, Rose is a far better option and those two should never see the floor together. When playing off the ball, the starting unit would be FAR better off with a shooter who can space the floor (Korver\Smith).

The frame of the article was -- it is a top team priority to "get Wade going", and then Wade saying that he is a rhythm shooter who needs a lot of shot attempts to "get going" and is used to being a one or two option on offense, then noting that he has halved shot attempts since last year. Draw your own conclusions.

If Wade said something like "I am going to focus on defense and facilitating the second unit because that is where I can best help the team", as you quite rightly indicated, then I would have said something very different about the article and praised Wade. But he not only didn't say that he dropped some strong hints that he has the opposite perspective.

Yeah, so I just read the article. I do see the rhetoric as getting Wade going; but, I don't see it as getting him 15.8 shots per game. Guess we'll find out.

Getting him 15.8 shots per game when he takes over 40% of his shots from midrange to long two would be incredibly stupid. He would be taking the second or third most shots on the team with the bulk of them being inefficient.

I figured Wade would come to Lue to come off the bench. I thought the experiment would last alittle longer but it's good Wade knows it isn't working. Wade should get increased touches coming off the bench and JR Smith will hopefully get back on track shooting.

I thought Lue could figure out the timing of minutes with the rotation to make it work but it's just simpler for Wade to come off the bench and lead that unit. Lue said he wants guys to go all out for 6 minute spurts, this makes it easier to rotate players now.

Thankfully Wade doesn't cave to LeBron's wants like everyone else. LeBron can't throw a hissy fit either or Wade will call him out on it.

I said it before in a game thread, but Wade's most valuable asset to this team may be his ability to hold LeBron accountable and not just cave to LeBron on every issue, like the coaching staff and most of the players would.

I think that was partially on Wade wanting to start as well. So LeBron right or wrong was going to vouch for him. Glad Wade is doing whats best for the team.

However, I'd rather he start when Rose is out. No more Jose unless Lue just decides to start TT.

TT
Love
LeBron
Crowder
JR

That way Zizic could get mins or maybe Frye (for shooting)

Classy move by wade. But a move that shouldn’t have had to been made in the first place.
agreed. awesome move by wade. i actually didn't expect it, but lue has no control over this team and they'll have to drag him kicking and screaming to pull off the miracle this year

Never saw that crazy chemistry between Wade and Lebron.. I was told it would be epic though.
