Dwyane Wade: Back to Riley (#CavsLifer)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think some fans aren't quite aware of what Wade's game has been like last few years. He's a slow starter, it takes veterans like him much longer to get into great NBA shape.

So, he starts off slow, looking like he's done, but he'll get it in gear.

I'm not worried about him. I still don't like him and Rose starting together. I think that lineup will cause problems when we play better teams (before IT comes back whenever that is), but, I'm not worried about Wade himself.

I think he'll be fine.

Let’s get this out of the way. Lue is the head coach. It IS left up to him. He quite literally could go to Wade and say “You’re coming off the bench because that is unequivocally better for this team”. If Lue cannot control who the starters are on his own team he should resign tomorrow.
Unfortunately the power dynamic on this team doesn't start and end with the coach. Wade likely complained about coming off the bench to LeBron or someone in the FO and that person compelled Lue to change his lineup.

I think that whoever decided to start Wade, made it so it helps the team to figure out more lineups and not get too comfortable in their roles. Last year everyone had their role and we had a handful of good lineups but when push came to shove in the finals we didnt have enough or any counter punch lineups to go to.

Alot of our players are playing different positions or roles in these first two games. We are seeing alot of different lineups and we are seeing effort on defense because we can't just rely on out scoring teams. Look at JR and Love, both are playing differently and re-adding elements to their games that we haven't seen them use as Cavs.

I think we will see Lue lock down the best lineups and rotations when IT comes back. Lue will get them comfortable with those in the back half of the season. Right now I think it's about forcefully expanding the offense. If they need to drop back to what they did best to win a close game, they can easily do that since we still have alot of the old rotation players here.

I have to say I have not watched wade play much after lebron left the heat. But I share your opinion, I guess its understandable people don't like him since the stats say he was pretty bad for the last couple of years, but he played on some poor teams. He is a great player, very smart but I think his ego might be in the way. He should play more like crowder, just let the game come to him and do a little bit of everything, but with some more control and craftier passes perhaps (and less 3's of course). I think and hope he just needs some time, actually it might not even be fair to judge him till after IT comes back or even in the playoffs since he is known for stepping it up. I do also want him to succeed with the cavs and find a good role because I think we will need him against golden state. Along with derrick rose and jeff green. Basically I want d-wade to replace shumpert so he doesn't have to play all. I just don't really see the cavs winning against golden state with calderon and shumpert playing.

Here's hoping that Wade improve as the season goes on and Lue moves him to the 2nd unit... otherwise the title of this thread would be changed to Dwyane Wade - David Wesley II

I'm going to blame Gabby on his performance. She should've kept her mouth shut lol.

It’s been 2 games...Wade will be fine. His game hasn’t “eroded”.
Since SanduskyCav felt compelled to silently disagree with my response, I thought it would be appropriate to revisit the absurdity of his original statement.

Wade's TS% / League Average / Differential

2013-14 .588 / .541 / +.047 (Final season with LeBron in Miami)
2014-15 .534 / .534 / ~.000
2015-16 .517 / .541 / -.024
2016-17 .508 / .552 / -.044
2017-18 .336 / .... / ....

- Wade's TS% “eroded” from 2013 to 2014
- It “eroded” further from 2014 to 2015
- And finally, it “eroded” even further from 2015 to 2016.

Fun fact: Last season, Wade's TS% was practically every bit as bad (-.044) as it was good back in 2013-14 (+.047).

PER / Decline

2013-14 22.0
2014-15 21.4 / -0.6
2015-16 20.3 / -1.1
2016-17 18.5 / -0.8
2017-18 0.2 / ....

- Wade's PER “eroded” from 2013 to 2014
- It “eroded” further from 2014 to 2015
- And finally, it “eroded” even further from 2015 to 2016.

Yep, move along folks. No “erosion” to see here.

Having him out there with Shump or Rose + LeBron makes ZERO sense. Did we promise him a starting spot before he signed here?

He needs to humble himself as a better player in Iggy went to the bench for a worse player in Barnes just to help team chemistry and fit.

Lucky for him JR continues to be trash all around, Korver is useless defensively and Shump lives in his head as the greatest player of all time.

I'm thinking we should experiment with Crowder at the 2 and start Zizic at the 5 but that is too much for Lue to comprehend probably. Giving up size while having minimal spacing is honestly a fireable offense.

His shot mechanics are off. Fades when there's no one around him. This is a vet we're talking about not a rookie

He is a cancer... bringing him here was the biggest error of this season! This dude is done and he is harmful for this team!

Might be the worst defensively player in the league at this point ??

Just hasn’t been the same since the story dropped about how he gets his ass eaten by Gabby Union...

Here's the question- he said he's a volume shooter. Who's comfortable with him taking 15-16 shots a game?
