Four Gay NFL players might come out together

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I support equal rights and if players come out, that's fabulous. I don't know what Brendon Ayanbadejo's angle is here though. Is he going to try to get into politics soon or something? His career is basically over due to age, etc.

Or maybe they aren't just ignorant, meat-headed, dumbasses? A player on the team doesn't have to be gay for them to support the issue. Quite honestly, I find it unbelievable that so many people are still so opposed to gay marriage / gay people in general. It's not like gay people are lessening the pool of eligible "straights" to choose from. Most aren't even making many forms of PDA. Sometimes people just need an issue to rally against, even though it makes little sense when you break it down.

We all deserve equal rights, right? More than likely, every player in the NFL has played with a gay teammate at one point in their career, but they just don't know it yet.

I corrected myself later on in the thread. I just pointed out that a high number of Browns players supported a legal brief submitted to the Supreme Court. I never called anyone meatheaded dumbasses.

Is anyone else concerned that the four guys who come out will be practice squad guys or fringe starters? There was a report that came out before this about 1 player that was considering coming out:
“a current gay player is strongly considering coming out publicly within the next few months — and after doing so, the player would attempt to continue his career.”

/.../

“The player would attempt to continue his career” after coming out, Freeman writes. This suggests that the player may not currently have a team, or that the player believes he may not make it onto the final 53-man roster of the team for which he currently plays.

As others have mentioned, half of the players that lined up with Kluwe and Ayanbadejo were Cleveland Browns. Three of the four were linebackers (Fujita, Gocong, D'Qwell) which makes me think that if it was a Cleveland Browns player who was gay; they might have come out to someone who plays the same position because you spend the most time with them and would likely be close with them. The fourth player was Alex Mack which seems a little odd considering the center and the potentially gay linebacker would not necessarily be very close because they aren't likely to ever be in the same meetings which made me think that they might have been drafted in the same year and thus had to participate in rookie events together. Kaluka Maiava fits all of those criteria. He was a free agent this offseason, he's a linebacker, he was drafted the same year as Mack, AND both played in the PAC10 which is something they could have initially bonded over.

My guess is that the most likely position for a gay football player is doggie. Probably wears number 68 or 69, we dont have a either on the roster. Number 72 is a possibility too, especially for a gay player.

So based upon this information I am guessing it is Schwartz who to my understanding is an active member of the Doggie Pound.

I'm not sure taking wild guesses is the right way to go, but it's fair to mention the Pacific Islander culture is more accepting of homosexuality than mainstream American culture. This might be a reason Ayanbadejo has been outspoken. To be honest, one reason I predict this "coming out party" hasn't happened yet is because a certain high profile draft prospect might be one of the four.

Not naming names... Nobody who is known to have phone sex with another guy comes immediately to mind... just a guess really...

Jigo is in the draft?

Not to necessarily out someone who doesn't want to be, but I think this is a pretty logical leap of faith to make and I would wager that all the factors point towards it.

Am I the only one who thinks Teo coming out would have been much more accepted and he would have had less ridicule than saying he got duped by a fake girlfriend? Now if he comes out it will look even more ridiculous since the girl didn't even matter.

All joking aside, I dont think he is gay. He is a strange guy with some Ricky Williams type shyness. He is going to have a hard time getting along with his teammates. I wouldnt draft him even if he fell to the 3rd round. I think he ends up being a locker room issue.

Realizing that his playing days are almost over and promoting an important issue while he still has some relevance in the sports world to promote it?

What even causes the gay rumors for Manti? What evidence has there ever been?

The scandal gave no indication of having been a gay relationship from Manti's perspective. The whole thing was that he thought it was a chick...he fell in love with a character, not a dude.

I would take him in the third round, that would be a steal. He's a beast on the field. Once he starts being dominate at the NFL level, nobody is going to care about him getting cat fished.
