Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Truth be told, its probably better for Josh to get “stuck” another year in Cleveland. The org is giving him support in a way that no other team will.

To summarize, PFT said what they said above, and Lane Adkins said the Browns put Josh on the "Did Not Report" list because of the reason related to keeping him longer; however, the Browns are saying they aren't changing his RFA status even if he doesn't report Tuesday.

What the hell is going on?

Sounds like there is a handshake deal in place to make sure Gordon does what is best for him and his disease not what is best for wallet. If he isn't back by Tuesday, it means Gordon and his agent trust the new front office which is very, very good.

Yeah I don't believe the Browns are going to force Gordon's hand just to mess around with his free agency status in a year.

Hopefully it doesn't even matter, and this season he balls out so much the Browns sign him to an extension.

I have to wonder, considering all the help and support the Browns have shown Josh, that he would be inclined to give them a favorable deal. Maybe a deal that makes sense for both sides, where the Browns feel comfortable giving him guaranteed money, just as long as Gordon remains clean and out of trouble.

Not sure exactly if that type of language can be put in a contract, though.

Why would you extend someone that you have under very cheap team control for multiple more years?

Especially when he’d only be a RFA, giving us a chance to place a tender and, again, retain him at a modest rate.

Especially, when, again, he hasn’t been reliable whatsoever.

I am rooting for Josh as much as the next guy, but believe me—we are way better off dangling carrots in front of him every chance we get. Luckily, we have that opportunity given his contract status.

So like...what's going on with this guy?

If I had to guess, based off his past issues and current sabbatical, I'd say he has an Anxiety Disorder, possibly Depression, coupled with a long history or addiction.

The addiction part can complicate treatment as some of the better medications to combat Depression, or even moderate Anxiety, can be habit-forming and thus off the table.

How do you treat a guy like that, @Hydroponic3385? Lots of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? Psychoanalysis?

A normal person could treat it with medicinal Cannabis. But since the NFL's policies are archaic....

I believe that he passed a deadline that makes him a Brown for an additional year. The outcome is: he plays great this year and we restructure for a long term deal, but us forfeiting another year of cheap josh Gordon is certainly leverage to bring the contract value down.

The Browns declined to enforce that. They're clearly showing good faith in working with Gordon moving forward. He will be an RFA next year and not an ERFA.
