2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't get why is everyone so upset. The most probable outcome has actually happened. We had over 50% chance of being out of top 3, and it happened. There is no rig, just accept that the fact that you have more chances than someone else at winning something doesn't mean it will happen. And the chances weren't even that greater, so i don't really get the surprise.

It sucks because we didn't get a chance at the top 3 prospects, but i actually like this format (maybe make it 3 selections again instead of 4, though).
Uh..I understand..in many ways it gives the appearance of being rigged..I wanted the Cavs to get that #1 spot..
But all ESPN has done is propped NY to get it. Well they didn't..
The Fakers picking ahead of the Cavs?? Yeah right..
Now that I know I want to see if the Cavs's scouting is up to par now that it's the 5th spot.

Go look at recent drafts and you won't find much difference between the 2nd pick and the 5th pick. In many cases the 5th pick turned out better.

Who do you guys like at 5? I personally like Garland or White. Those are bigger PG's that could fit with Sexton. I am just not a huge fan of Culver or Hunter. Those are low upside players.

I think Coby White is ideal both talent wise and how he would fit with the Cavs. They sorely need a guard to develop with some size. He would be on the raw side early on in his career because he still has a teenager body but I like his potential as much as anyone in the draft.

Tanking is the main thing the format was setup to stop. You get good players at any pick. Drafting high doesn’t automatically make you better.

You literally don’t get good players at every pick. Someone will inevitably throw out “Giannis was drafted at 15”. Ok, cool. Now list every non lottery pick in that same range, over the last 30 years . 1 transcendent, aberration is an argument for possibly introducing perpetual mediocrity for truly bad team? Why is this nonsense repeated by people who pay any attention to the draft?

Go count the number of teams who have won a title without a top 3 pick on their roster. Even the last two Golden Sate teams have featured a top 2 pick. Talent wins in the NBA and the only way for 90% of the league to get it is through the draft. The NBA just made that harder to provide disincentive for a couple teams. That’s just really short sighted.

Silver could have easily addressed this similar to the luxury tax, where there is a repeater version of lottery odds. Or even stipulations in place where a team can’t get a top 5 pick in back to back years......or if a team gets #1 overall, they can’t get another top 3 pick for 3 years.......this wasn’t that hard to fix so it didn’t destroy the teams that are truly bad.

Coby White being liked by people is just one of the more head scratching lottery stories to me. That guy is just not that good. What is his NBA skill? Shooting? He was an incredibly average college shooter in his Freshman year.

He’s not a good playmaker and he’s sloppy with the ball. He doesn’t rebound much for being a big guard. He’s lazy on defense and constantly stands flat footed on that end. Takes a lot of bad shots. His bust potential is through the roof. NBA graveyard is littered with guys like him.

The Lakers MOVING UP 7 SPOTS is what rigged it for me. That was strictly done to get Lebron his what, 4th superteam? Sometime by Iuly you will hear AD to Lakers and boom, Lebron has his superteam,,,,all made possible by a riiged ass draft lottery.

stinks for the Cavs but I'm ok with the new rules, heck, I'd be OK with every team in the NBA having a chance at the #1 pick every year. I hate tanking as an approach to building. I get that it almost has to be done (or at least had to be done before) but multi-season tanking is bad for everyone. Team, fan base, player's careers/salaries..

As for the Cavs pick: I like De'Andre Hunter. If Beilien is who people are saying he is, I think he could really turn Hunter into a great pick. He does everything the right way, would be a contributor from the get go, and he seems hungry enough to improve in places he's weak at.

Coby White probably after that, and dark horsing Cam.. think he got lost in not knowing how to play in a supplemental role, don't discount that, can be hard to learn to play w/o the ball if that's not really who you've been.

They had the same odds, maybe even better, than we did in 2011 when we won from 8.

It is what it is at this point. Crying fix or rigged just makes you sound like a sore loser. I think the system stinks but I guess it provides excitement.

Maybe permit 5-8 seeds to participate in the lottery as well. Lower odds, but you wouldn't have that dropoff of teams trying to avoid the playoffs to be in the lottery.

Excitement is what they were looking for. But for what? A 1 hour segment before a playoff game? Who cares. I want to watch competitive basketball where more than 2 or 3 teams have an actual chance of winning the whole thing each year.

This system could potentially promote tanking. A truly bad team can't afford to win a few games and potentially pick at 10. The bottom 4 teams all fell 2-3 spots to make way for 3 teams, 2 of whom have top 5 NBA talent already on their roster. It's broken.

I doubt Atlanta would do it but maybe they give us the pick we owe them. Hachimura and Reddish would be outstanding though. If not, I still would draft Hachimura at 5.

Also the Japan media and fans will go crazy. There will be so much Cleveland merchandise to Japan. Japan loves its players. Plus it will be a huge impact for basketball to Japan.
Reddish is a 30% rate chucker who needs another 1-2 years in college to develop his offense. The Cavs need building blocks to pull them out of the lottery, not overhyped bums that will keep them there.

You might wanna check our odds when we won with the clippers pick

the whole point of a draft is to help bad teams get better or why wouldnt you just let teams sign players instead? This draft lottery result won't move the needle for the bottom 4 sides. Dumb. System is broken.

oh well try to make the best of a bad situation.

We didn't get #1. OK, fine.
But the Lakers getting #4 is pure bullshit. With Pelicans getting #1, that's a pretty blatant rig to get Anthony Davis on the Lakers.

I disagree. I think if they had got a top 3 yes, but not at 4. I think the Knicks are a big threat. The Pelicans could have a quick rebuild with 1 and 3. It is a 3 person draft, they get Zion and either an elite PG or a great wing. I see AD in NY with Iriving and Durant. That would be an amazing big three IMO.
