New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You got all the way to season 2? I got 4 minutes into episode 1 of season 1 and thought this is dog shit. I then turned it off and watched something else.

Netflix cancelled iron fist

I only got a couple minutes into the first episode too. I was amazed when I saw it got a season 2.

Sounds like they're going to keep the character around, though, which means they'll probably roll the Iron Fist cast into Luke Cage and turn it into a sort of Heroes for Hire show, even though I don't think they'll be able to use that name since they aren't allowed to create any new shows any more. It'll likely stay Luke Cage, or maybe they'll rename it Luke Cage & Iron Fist? Not sure if they can legally do that or not.

Either way, considering both of these characters have struggled to fill out a full Netflix season, combining them is probably for the best. Should lead to less filler each season.

Ok, I have a TV show to avoid: Netflix' Roman Empire.

It is less historically accurate than Drunk History and its attempt to meld documentary and drama utterly fails.

The first scene of Season Two is Caesar fighting as a private legionary on the front line. And he's blonde with blue eyes. Wrong.

@The Human Q-Tip
I saw the preview for it while browsing netflix and then just skipped.

I think they can do heroes for hire because they technically own the rights to all the defenders. Much like fox was able to do anything with X-men

I mean, I think they can do Heroes for Hire, I just don't think they can call it that because I believe they are not allowed to make any new Marvel shows at this point.

They might be able to call it Luke Cage & Iron Fist, though. Not really sure how it works. I just know they can't create any new Marvel shows.

Truth be told, I read the description for Season One that it involved Commodus, and didn't bother watching it dismissing it out of hand as popular tripe.

So, I started Season Two in the (off) hope it would be better.

We deserve better popular history considering how badly it is ignored in our schools. Unfortunately, popular media is the only medium in which many learn history.

Any of you folks experienced with producing podcasts by chance? Have ideas and the historical knowledge. Looking to get into the game.

I have a friend who wants to get into podcasting and has been looking for people to partner with. He was also a history major in college and has experience with audio production. PM me.

I honestly looked at the Netflix promo, and decided right then there was no way. HBO's Rome was just so well done that it would be very difficult to come close to that standard. And if you can't come close...what's the attraction of an inferior product covering the exact same stuff?

But I did really enjoy the second season of The Last Kingdom. The lead is very good, but the portrayals of Alfred and especially Beocca are just fantastic. Hild is very good as well. It helps having it be a bit of historical fiction because it gives them more license than you get with something like The Roman Empire, but it also works as history because they get all the real-world events and characterizations right, for the most part.

The Last Kingdom also moves at a breakneck pace, so it never really has time to get boring.

Lol at American horror story.

Started off with a great premise and they just scrapped it entirely by episode 3 by returning to a different season.

This show was good for a couple seasons. Hard to believe

Edit fucking lol, a random Stevie nicks performance as a witch because who knows.

Love LK. For the reasons cited.

Yeah, I was hopeful. There is so much to mine from Roman history that small productions that focus on individuals rather than the grand scope of Roman statecraft could be good.

The problem with most historical productions is that there are few companies willing to let a history nerd make a proper, mostly accurate product.

HBO succeeds because they do allow the quality to come through. John Adams is a great example.

Last Kingdom also has the benefit of being based on a series of fiction books that provides an easy blueprint for the showrunners to follow. Much like Game of Thrones and The Expanse, it's a lot easier to make a good product when you've got great source material to pull from.

Really enjoying Lost in Space. Just enough elements from the original series, just enough differences to be way better than I expected.

I used to really enjoy that show. I checked out midway through Freakshow

Haunting of Hill House is excellent. As I’ve mentioned many times, I love horror. I’m really difficult to scare nowadays, so I’m more just in it to appreciate the quality of production of good horror when they come along.

As excellent as the horror is, some of this stuff is just soul-suckingly depressing on this show. I just watched the BNL episode and I am literally depressed right now. Goddamnit.
