The Paul George Safari: LeBron Strikes Back!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think that's what they are doing for sure. They just want to save 25 million over a buyout. That why if I'm the front office, I don't give them anything of value. If it's Shump, RJ, and Frye, I try to move Shump and Frye for similar number and years to someone else so we can gain some assets. Even if it's 2 second rounders, we are doing the Knicks a favor they shouldn't gain any assets from it.
We don't want to be like Phil Jackson where your anger towards a perticular issue/team hurts your team. If we can get Mello, while keeping the Big 3 together, you do it, regardless of how much it helps NY.

I don't think it's an anger for a team. We lack assets in general, Shump and Frye are more than just expiring contracts. They have value in the league, they might not be anyone's first choice but teams will come calling if they need a stretch 4 or wing after missing in free agency. Yes Melo makes us better but we do need some assets moving forward.

Before anyone gets their hopes up, it mentions the Spurs and Cs to as teams he would commit too.

This is the article to see the context:

Paul George Willing To Commit Long-Term To Cavs If LeBron Stays

Paul George is open to re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers if he's traded there this offseason and LeBron James chooses to remain there next summer.

While George has preferred to end up with the Los Angeles Lakers, he is prudent enough to not leave an opportunity to compete for a title with the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are attempting to come up with a three-way trade scenario involving Kevin Love that results in a trade for George.

George also feels the same way if he's traded to the Boston Celtics or San Antonio Spurs.

The Lakers have limited assets to trade to the Indiana Pacers for George even with the commitment that he'll re-sign.

I'm skeptical because of Isaiah Thomas recruiting Blake Griffin and because of this saying the opposite, that George wouldn't commit beyond one season with the Spurs:

If George were agreeable to extensions with Spurs and Celtics right now, then wouldn't there be more news on this? And what's in it for George to say that? With the Cavs, George has an interest in Lebron staying should he go to Cavs. But for the other teams, it increases the bidding war and makes the winning bid team have to give more assets to Indy. It also costs George money. So I'm skeptical George announced he will commit to more than one year should Boston or San Antonio trade for him, and wonder if the writer misspoke.

This all just reiterates what George said from the beginning when he said to get a trade done for him in Cleveland. He wants to play for a winner.

It isn't LA or bust.

Broussard said the Kyrie for Bledsoe and George rumor was legit. Cavs had it on the table, but Indiana backed out of it because they didn't get enough. Said he was unsure of the LeBron was talked to about it and didn't commit.

I'm sure Brussard said this, but I find it impossible to believe Cavs would've done this.

Cavs could've traded Kyrie for Jimmy Butler straight up, had a younger, better player, under contract for 2 years -- and still traded Love for George.

Makes literally no sense.

If Cavs were going to trade Irving, they'd have done it already.

It depends on if Melo would choose Chris Paul and the Rockets over Lebron and the Cavs. Both are close friends with Melo and would have the inside track to knowing Melo's likely first choice. Chris Paul's first choice was said to be the Cavs but that didn't work out. I guess if we get George then the choice would be easier for Melo.

Melo isn't going to play for D'Antoni....

Maybe the Bulls being fools took them by surprise?

Have a hard time believing Irving was ever on the table. You could get a lot more for Irving than a 1-year rental of Paul George.

Makes me wonder if perhaps Griffin's putting Kyrie on the table played a part in letting him go. It's just bizarre timing to have no GM.

It isn't LA or bust.

Wanting to play for a winner and committing to more than one year now are two entirely different things. He can want to play for a winner for one year before making a decision to stay afterwards. With the Cavs he's saying he'll commit to longer than one year now if Lebron commits longer than one year now. If he gets traded to Celtics or Spurs it seems like he could choose to see how things play out before making that future commitment.

Good point. Could be that Stephen A Smith was being fed BS. In the end, Lebron being close enough to Melo would know Melo's real intentions so I trust Lebron's judgement if he tells the front office not to trade for Melo because he knows Melo intends to come to Cleveland.

How does Melo get to Cleveland without a trade though?
