The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Does anyone know if Mass Effect 4 has a co-op on the story mode? I read there is co-op on multiplayer missions, but does that mean that those are separate from the story and you have to play the story by yourself?

I was looking for this to maybe play the story mechanics out like Destiny does where you can invite a friend or two to play the story with you or you can play it by yourself.

Don't think so.

Wait, what?
Yep, spiritual successor with a lot of the same team that worked on the original, with a few newcomers (really excited about Patrick Rothfuss, author of one of the biggest/best new fantasy series).

Really cool setting too, you're in a civilization built on the ruins of 7-8 older civilizations, where magic is indistinguishable from technology. Seems like the kind of weird setting that PS:T did so well with.

Wait, what?

To add to my last post, this is the quick wiki summary of all playable companions in the game:

  • Aligern, a fallen priest who pulls writhing tattoos from his arms to spill horror upon his foes.
  • Callistege, a nano who toyed with the fabric of space one too many times and now lives a fractured existence, living parallel lives in multiple universes and timestreams all at once.
  • Matkina, a cold, calculating jack with a blade in her pocket and acid in her soul, who carries mind-altering mists around her neck, and who has found a way to control light and shadow.
  • Erritis, a boy who seeks only adventure and glory, who leaps blindly into the most ridiculously dangerous situations imaginable and--surprisingly--emerging from them brighter and more powerful than he was before... but whose existence is a torment its own.
  • Tybir, an old sailor most often found on the wrong side of the law.
  • Rhin, a lost child who claims she can speak to gods.
Seeing as Torment was all about the companions (Dak'kon in particular was as well written a companion as I've ever played with in an RPG, and Annah was incredible in her own right), it looks like we'll have some really interesting interactions at least.

And the reincarnation thing pops up since you're the latest body created by someone who moves his consciousness into a new body before disposing them after he's through. I really REALLY hope this is good.

Will be playing it on Day 1 for certain.. Torment is one of my favorite games of all time.. In fact, I think it's on my Top 5 RPGs ever.

Apparently it's available now as an "early access" game. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive which is rare for early access titles. It sounds like official release is 28th perhaps??

Yeah, I backed the game and I think the first portion has been out to backers as a beta test of sorts? Since so much of the game is exploring and experiencing the world, I wanted no part of it.

Are you playing Civ 6?

Was looking for a strategy game, and I was really big on Civ 5 .. like .. absurdly so..

Just an FYI, the March Humble monthly bundle gives you Total War: Warhammer (and six other games to be announced later) for twelve bucks. Another great deal for a relatively new game that is still selling for sixty bucks on Steam.

The February bundle was X-Com 2, ABZU, Ryse: Son of Rome, Steamworld Heist, Okhlos, Project Highrise, Husk, and two Humble originals (Oh, Deer and a sneak peak at a cool-looking game called Hollow Knight).

I don't have civ 6 no. I played a little bit of civ 5 with my brother. He loves civ games, but doesn't play as much because of the time requirement to finish a game.

Steam has Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for 70 % off at 18 dollars. I never picked it up because of the disappointment people said it was.

It seems as if both this game and dishonored 2 were both massive disappointments. For 18 dollars though i'll pick it up.

If you're looking for a strategy game, check out Shadow Tactics. It's real time stealth strategy like Commandos and Desperadoes back in the day, set in Japan during the Edo period, and it's fucking awesome. It's sitting pretty at Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam right now. Tough game, but a lot of fun and really rewarding when you pull off really intricate maneuvers. There's also a free demo you can check out.

I wouldn't say either game was a massive disappointment. With Mankind Divided, most people just complained that the story wasn't as good or epic as Human Revolution. The gameplay and level design are both fantastic, though.

As for Dishonored 2, the main complaint I read was that the game had performance issues on the PC. If you liked the first game, it's basically more of the same but prettier and with some new powers.

@Jack Brickman It was more than the story being not as good. Apparently it ended abruptly and they had to cut content due to either going overbudget or time constraints. It also looked like content was cut for DLC.

They planed on addressing story shortcomings in the sequel that is now cancelled as Deus Ex has now been put on the shelf.

Oh, and it has performance problems despite not being the best looking game. You can't maintain 60 + fps in outdoor areas with people on even the strongest CPU's.

I think i'm going to cap the game at 40 fps because there is no way my older cpu is keeping pace. It doesn't appear to ever go above 100 frames per second ever so my framerate cap will keep the frame pacing even. I'll set pre rendered frames in the drivers to 1 to reduce the input lag associated with a lower framerate. Gsync is amazing here because frame tearing is more prevalent at lower framerates. You couldn't cap your framerate at 40 with vsync because it would be a stuttery mess. You would have to do something like half refresh vsync to cap it at 30 fps by setting the games refresh rate to 60 (if you had a 100+ hz monitor) just to get even frame pacing in this game. Then there is the issue with 30 fps having more input lag than 40 fps and vsync adding another 15 + ms of input lag.

I really can't stop gushing about gsync @gourimoko I think it's the best technology that has come out for gaming in a long time. Everybody want's VR though when i'd much rather buy a nice gsync monitor.

Basically every console-centric game has PC performance issues these days. As far as the story goes, I haven't finished it yet, but Human Revolution's story wasn't exactly amazing, and the ending(s) sucked there too. Aside from the crazy conspiracy shit, Deus Ex games are really more about the exploration and the ability to play the game multiple ways and accomplish objectives however you want, and the game has all of that. I was really enjoying it when I played it. I only stopped because a billion other things came out and I have yet to get back to it.
