Trade Rumor(s)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dont even know how anthony would fit in this team. Will he be comfortable coming off from the bench? I dont think so.

Asik racking up DNP-CDs. If he didn't have so much money left on his deal is say he could be a buyout target.

You'd end up shipping Tristan out for Melo (value), and that would mean we'd need a ZaZa or Bogut type to start at center for awhile.

Ideally, your lineup would look something like this:

Kyrie/James/Melo/Love/Bogut(anyone)

With a small ball lineup of:

Kyrie/Korver(Smith)/James/Melo/Love

If he says he's not waiving his NTC unless its a trade to the Clippers or Cavs it means we have all the leverage, If they really want to get rid of him they should take almost any offer instead of getting absolutely nothing.

So whats the shittiest possible offer we can give them that doesn't involve Tristan Thompson or any other Key piece? I'm sure the knicks would love some future 1st round picks aswell, I wouldn't mind having Melo come off the bench :chuckle:

They don't need to get rid of him. Thats the thing. I don't know why the Knicks would trade him unless the clippers are dumb enough to send some real talent. Rose is gone this summer. That takes 21 million off their salary.

They could already be under the cap by cutting a player or 2. So unless they are just trying to tank then they have no reason to take the junk we would offer.

As far as how would it work. If you have a chance to add carmelo and keep Lebron, Kyrie, and Love. You make it work. So anyone saying "I don't even want him on this team" your lying.

Just for kicks... that means I'm not saying I think this will happen so no freaking out... we give them Shump, TT, Kay, and Cedi and whatever picks/assets we can muster up. They give us Melo and O'quin.

They get a fan favorite back in Shump and TT can live in NY with his BAE. We pick up some random center that can switch on D.

Our lineup would be Irving, Lebron, Melo, O'quin. With Korver, smith, frye, jefferson, liggins, and whatever we can get during buy out season. You sub out Love and Melo early then bring them back together to Pick and Roll other teams benches to death with Korver and Frye raining down 3's.

Saying all that. Its not going to happen. Clippers have more ammo and more reason to go after another star anyways.

Shumpert + Frye + Jefferson

There's no way to send out less talent and get the salaries to match.

I would never give up TT for Anthony. It's not even about leverage or anything, TT is just a better player at this stage. The only thing Anthony does better is score -- but it's low efficiency. Low efficiencies scorers don't help you win basketball games.

It's born out in stats this year: TT has a higher BPM, a higher VORP, and more Win Shares/36 this year than Carmelo. Plus he's 6 years younger and on a better contract.

I'd take him for Shumpert + Frye + Jefferson. I might even send out Cedi. But given how bad that contract is, and the fact that he will be 36 at the end of it, i'm not doing anything more.

I was wondering how long it would take to come up.. My problem with the idea ( let alone the mechanics) is that Melo has never proven he can win. I am not sure he has the heart..

That said, this definitely rises to the Durant challenge. Melo carries the Knicks, and with lebron/ kyrie/ love hard to see how he does not put up better numbers.

I don't think it makes sense to trade one of the big three to get him though, Love is having a great year, and it would be a risk to swap him with Melo. That means TT is in the conversation. The problem I see is it is a short term solution. What kind of team does Kyrie have when lebron retires? TT is a long term known parameter. ..

I for one hope he goes to the Clippers. Would make for a tough opponent in the West but I still think our overall shooting would dismantle that team.

Nor would any team feel comfortable having him come off the bench. You don't do that.

Not a big Melo defender... But you can't just say he doesn't win. He has never been on a team that could compete. Who is the best player he has played with other than Porzingis who is still ? It might be JR smith.

David Griffin wouldn't trade TT for Melo even if he was on a 3 week crack binge and they sent a kilo of the finest crack along with Melo.

TT at a very fair number, entering his prime soon, never gets hurt, never misses a game, elite offensive rebounder, can switch defensively onto anyone...

Melo wouldn't all of a sudden start trying on defense, his health is FAR from a guarantee, he has a "knee" every single year. The olympic team may be willing to let Melo lead them in scoring against Venezuela and China, but Kyrie and Bron aren't going to let him do it against the Warriors. He's an isolation scorer. I would kill myself watching him dance around and jack up a 21 footer ever 5 possessions.

Trading Tristan for Melo would be bad. I can't even believe I personally once said I'd maybe consider Love for Melo. I must have been on crack. Jesus.

Unless the Knicks really like cedi osman we're not getting melo. I'm all for some package around frye shump RJ and birdman but New York won't bite on that. Unless some 3rd team gets involved and wants one of them for a first. Frye is unplayable vs the Warriors and shump freezes up in big games so I don't mind losing them. Melo would be amazing off the bench but he'd never accept that role. The best we could hope for is staggering his minutes and letting him run the 2nd unit as the PF with TT at C.

But regardless it's not happening. He's got a shit ton of money left on his deal and isn't getting any better. The best we could hope for is a surprise buyout. Which again isn't happening.
