So Long, David Nwaba

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's possible they didn't re-sign him because they are paying about a billion dollars to Zach LaVine, who plays the same position. It's also possible that he didn't want to return to Chicago, or thought he'd have a bigger role here.

Teams lose guys they don't necessarily want to lose all the time, though.

All these fan assessments are that it is a puzzling move. They wanted to keep him. Prefer that to Jazz fans saying good riddance to Hood.

This is pretty prob becauseLavine is the starter and Valentine the backup.

I think this is probably the reason he isn't with the Bulls. At his age and being a guy that would be a fringe rotation player, it's more about find the right fit than getting the little bit of extra money. He is looking to set up his next contract and stay in the NBA long term.

I actually think he fits next to Clarkson with the second unit once the older vets are traded away. Nwaba can make his impact on the defensive side of the ball and in transition. He might be one of the few guards that wouldn't go crazy with Clarkson being a ball hog.

Have any actual numbers come in on Nwaba? With the Dekker trade, I half wonder if the Cavs have some irons in the fire they want to make before officially filing the contract. With the rumors of Houston poking around JR and even the potential to move Tristan somewhere (would have to take back another contract but TT could be something a team in the East might want due to his longstanding ownership of Horford - any team wanting to leap the Celtics could have an interest). Also have to wonder about Hood with the signing of Nwaba and now adding Dekker, who can play SF or PF.

Edit: I now remember that teams have to offer a player a contract every year to retain their draft rights. If the player signs the contract then the choice has to be made to keep them on the roster or waive them by the start of the season.

For a restricted free agent, a team has to make a qualifying offer to make the player restricted To retain second round draft rights, a team only has to make a “required tender” (one year min salary contract) if the player asks for it. If the player never asks for it, the team never has to offer it.

Sir’D has never asked for the tender, which makes it pretty clear that he’s in possession of an accurate understanding of his value as an NBA player.

p.s. If a team wanted, they could offer a bigger contract as required tender, like a 4 year non guaranteed min salary deal using the MLE or something if they felt like it. And then the player would have to choose between not playing in the nba or taking that contract.

Still nothing on his contract?

Probably depends on some other deal that has not happened yet, like keeping the team under the tax after signing Hood.

I thought his game looked a lot like PF and basically that was confirmed. He was a swing big in college sf/PF. He is just too small to do that in the NBA, but that is what his game look like. Dunks from the baseline and lots of good rebounding with the ability to hit a 3 sometimes.

Four Guards and Love/Nance? Hmmmm.
The reason that could work is because of the size of those 4 guards. I sure hope lue has some insight of how to put these guys in the right positions, and that is my biggest concern. I won't be able to trust lue until I'm surprised by him showing me a reason to.

Rebounding might not be that bad. Cedi and Nwaba are both good rebounders

I'm just spit-balling here. Depending on the matchups, you could go Four Guards and a Zizic?
And no, I don't expect Lue to think that far out of the box. In my dreams, I'd like to coach just to mess with the lineups. (and the other Guy)

A Zizic is a mythical creature. Captured one back in the day when I was a Pokemon master.
