Your 2018 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't agree. You are correct in that ticket sales won't pay for that extension alone, but you better believe Dolan's decision will be impacted by how much fan support they can count on.

You can disagree all you want. But it goes against this organization’s core philosophy to sign humongous long term contracts. No matter what kind of “support” they are getting.

If that is what Lindor will sign for, just enjoy him while we have him. Although his price may come way down if he continues to hit like this. :chuckle:

Nothing anyone does is going to make them shell out a 250 million dollar contract IMO
I agree that we have to support the team but I also agree that there is no way this ownership can compete with the contracts that will be shelled out in the next few years...including Lindors. The orginization is just not set up for that type of spending. The Dolans have been a good ownership group but they rely on smaller contracts and luck. Our pitching is outstanding and signed to cheaper contracts especially Kluber. Teams like the Indians...Royals etc only can sustain winning for so long then they need to start over. I feel we may have missed our window the past 2 years in not winnig a championship. We will lose Miller and Allen this off season and in gerneral (EE withstanding) we will never shell out big deals with this ownership.

Maybe Lindor is a bad example, but there is an absolute correlation between this franchise spending and the support they receive from fans.

Ok. For a guy like Edwin sure. Edwin wasn’t a monster contract like the one Lindor will receive if he shows he is what we all think he is. So yea I’d say he’s a bad example.

Edit: went back and read the earlier portion of the conversation. My bad.

Francisco Lindor is dead-set on hitting FA. He is not just going for the last dollar, he also knows where he wants to play, and it isn't in a place where he is wearing ski masks on Opening Day. Cisco has turned down every overture by the FO to get him to sign a longterm deal- he isn't even willing to sacrifice even one year of FA. That says it all about his intentions. There is no way- zero- that the Tribe is the highest bidder on him if he stays healthy and continues on his current career arc. He will be the premier FA of his class. He will have a big market circled as a destination. He will get his destination to pony up. As Chris said, I would just enjoy him while he is here, because there is as much chance of him resigning here as there is of Jimmy Haslam signing the Browns ownership over to the Cleveland City Mission.

If we cant afford him, its one thing. If he has a preferred destination 4 years out....fuck that guy.

This & a lack of salary cap is why I have never gotten all in on baseball. Realistically only a handful of teams can compete year in and year out. Teams like Us, Pitts, Cincy, Milwaukee, Minny, etc only have a true few year window maybe once every 15 years. Even then, how many years are they realistically competing. We are all farm systems for the top 10 franchises.

We have him locked in for 4 years after this one. I have a hard time believing he has his next team picked out already... in fact, I dont believe that at all. A whole lot can happen in half a decade.

This seems like a bunch of random speculation based on him turning down their initial offer, an offer that any agent would have turned down based on the circumstances.

Maybe your sauce has an agenda? Or has been hitting the sauce?

I thought it was 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021? So 3 years after this.

Guys, he trolls in this section constantly...

Anyway, the shitty Indians are only half a game behind the almighty Yankees.
Bronx Bombers don't even have the best record in NYC at the moment. Sad!

Dodgers sitting at 3-6

How good would Jay Bruce and his .310 average look out in RF?

It would. I have my doubts that he had any intention of coming back here. The Indians were on his old no-trade clause- along with the As, Rays, Marlins, Dbacks, Twins, Red Sox and Yankees- I doubt it was because he thought he could wrangle a bonus out of the Indians to waive it. The Tribe was prob on his list for the same reason the Twins were: lower payroll, midwest team in cold climate w/ little chance to resign him to what he wanted. He came here for a short vacation from the Mets dumpster fire to end last year, then retreated back there once it ended. Oh well.
