Yahoo: Nets moving closer to deal for Anthony

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree with IBWT, i think we are in it for the picks, and possibly a solid player like Nene or something, because if we give up Andy, we are going to need a center in return.

That would be an utter waist of our TPE.
but we could contend! they'd put us over the top!

I should point out that I would not be surprised if Grant (well, with the pressure from Gilbert) did that.

If Denver is looking to cut salary, that rumored GS pick(since its top 7 protected) could be something that Chris Grant is looking into. If Denver wanted to rid some immediate salary and would be willing to part with a first round pick with the justification being that they're getting Derrick Favors anyway as the core part of the package, I could see something potentially brewing there.
That'd be awesome as long as the incoming salary is reasonable. I'd be ecstatic if we ended up picking in the top 5 with ours, then 8-10 with GS's.

That'd be good as long as we re-trade Nene before the deadline. That'd bring in another asset. Then just sign some scrub to play center because...the team would be blown up so who cares who plays there.

If Cleveland were to get Melo, we all know he's gone after this season unless we can somehow bring somebody in like CP3

I do see the Knicks trying to get us involved and trying to get us to give up some of the picks we got for Lebron to Denver.......i would do it if we can get some talent back in return

We aren't getting Melo.

Denver Stalling, But Still Motivated Sellers
Sep 26, 2010 11:07 AM EST
The Denver Nuggets are stalling the process of trading Carmelo Anthony by searching for offers from other teams, according to a league source.

Denver, however, is still motivated to trade Anthony by their media day.

It would be awesome if the Cavs get involved and snag that GS pick. But since it's top 7-protected, you just know that Golden State's pick will fall in the top 7 somewhere.

We are not really trying to solve any problems right now, we are just rebuilding. Galinari is a decent talent, but I don't think we should give up a future first round pick for him. It doesn't really help our situation.

It goes back to how we rebuild. Gallinari is more than a decent talent. He just turned 22 yrs old, broke-out last year in his first real season and showed in Europe the capabilities of being an elite player. This isn't a guy that you might get in the lottery - an unknown - it's a player you possibly build around. It's kind of like JJ. Would a team give up a lottery pick for him at this point? Most likely a lot would and Gallinari has shown a lot more than JJ at this point.

The other issue is that we are stockpiling draft picks already, and still have guys we will be able to unload for more picks. Giving up a 1st now for our future SF to run alongside JJ begins setting us up with young talent, not potential. Remember, free agency won't help us much in this rebuilding so we will have to rely on trades and draft but you can't fully rely on the draft since it's an unknown science. With our history of draft picks, I'm a little surprised how so many of you just want to trade everyone away for more picks. You don't build a team with Luke Jackson, Dajuan Wagner, Darnell Jackson, Diop and Eyenga (I'm still not buying the hype on him, he looks to me like he'll bounce around the league with teams waiting for him to translate his talent into NBA game).

If this trade were available - which it's possible NY would do since they'd be bringing in Melo to replace him at SF - it'd be great for us. Don't see how anyone who's watched his game could argue against what we'd have to give up to facilitate this deal and get him.

Ferry/Gilbert were only involved in two of the picks you mentioned. But you forgot to mention Boobie Gibson and JJ Hickson. Now we have a new GM, and we will have lottery picks to use, we can't make judgement on the current front offices drafting because they have been making picks in the late 1st round and not in the lottery. Paxson is the person responsible for the three gems that you mentioned.

Edit: And as for Gallinari, I am not 100% sold on the kid. If it cost us a Miami pick and someone like Varejao I would be all for it, but for our top 10 pick not a damn chance. Gallinari is a nice player, but unless we got more than him I don't think he'd be worth it at all.

Edit2: If we got Lawson, Galinari and GSW top 7 protected I would do it.

Everybody except Billups and Lawson is available......the Cavs should swoop in and try to pick up Birdman, JR Smith, and Nene.....some frontcourt help would be good and another 3 pt shooter would help too

No, the Cavs should not do that.

No, the Cavs should not do that.

Tell me one reason why? We are a defensive minded team and Nene and Birdman are good defensive players plus we already shoot the 3 alot, bringing in JR wouldnt change much

Birdman- 2.5 bpg two seasons ago and 1.9 last season
Nene- 14 ppg 8 rpg 1 bpg
Smith- 37% 3 pt shooter for his career

It's because we're rebuilding.

There is your reason.

We arent re-building......Scott and Grant have both said the playoffs are a goal still

A team should either be a contending or a rebuilding. I am certain that we are not contenders, so we better be rebuilding. Taking on salary and old players just to make the playoffs is not a good start.

We need picks and young talent atm. Maybe some more assets that we can flip for more picks and young talent in the future.

This team will not try to lose on purpose, they will try to make the playoffs. That doesn't mean we are not rebuilding.
