Yahoo: Nets moving closer to deal for Anthony

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We arent re-building......Scott and Grant have both said the playoffs are a goal still

Of course it's the goal, as it should be. It is the right frame of mind after all, but if anyone came out and said "Our goal is the number one pick in the draft." How do you think people would react? Poorly to say the least.

Our goal should always be to win and will always be to win, but there is a difference between the long term and the short term. Bringing in guys like Nene, Birdman, JR Smith, Iggy, etc. might help us in the short term, but that's not going to win us a championship. We've been thinking in the short term for too long, maybe that's why you think bringing in those guys would be good. What we need to do at this point is go young, play hard, and hope we get good again. All the while enjoying the ride and getting to see a team grow and get better together.

Tell me one reason why? We are a defensive minded team and Nene and Birdman are good defensive players plus we already shoot the 3 alot, bringing in JR wouldnt change much

Birdman- 2.5 bpg two seasons ago and 1.9 last season
Nene- 14 ppg 8 rpg 1 bpg
Smith- 37% 3 pt shooter for his career

Chris "Birdman" Andersen (32) - He's nearing the end of his career and we should be unloading guys like this not bringing them in; he's also under contract for another 4 years.
Nene (28) - I like Nene but he also makes 11 Mil this year and has a player option for 11 Mil next year. We already pay Andy a lot for similar work.
JR Smith (25) - Seems like a headcase and has off court issues. Also is a chucker which we don't really need taking away from our young prospects.

Makes more sense to sit on what we have and see what comes our way midseason with the TPE, Mo, Twan, Parker, etc.

Did you say Birdman is under contract for 4 more yrs? If so, then hell no. Chris Grant has already said that he wants to bring in short term contracts, not long term contracts.

Plus......we are rebuilding. Of course Grant and Gilbert aren't going to flat out straight say that we are rebuilding, but we are. Windhorst said during the summer league that we are doing a little rebuilding project.

He is under contract through the 2014 season. For 4.x Mil a year.

Yeah, the little re-building project was bringing in Eyenga/Hollins/Sessions/Samuels

RT @reallisa: Philadelphia Daily News reporting that Nuggets and Sixers are discussing a trade involving Carmelo Anthony + Andre Igoudala

Well, Birdman would be a nice pick up, but I don't think Grant wants to bring in that type of a contract. He wants to stay flexible while making trades.

If so, wow. If I were Denver, I'd go after Lou Williams, Evan Turner, and Thad Young. Iggy shouldn't be the player the Nuggets want to rebuild around. You see how that worked with the 6ers.

I like that but how likely will Philly do that......its like the Nets, are they really gonna deal Favors for Melo

If I am NY, and I'm sure they are trying, I'm out to find one or two other teams to get this done. Pairing Melo and Amare means they are back in the playoffs easy; given another off season they could pickup more pieces to fight at the top of the East. Sadly, we all know who they need to go through to get into the finals.

What NY is trying to do is they are trying to get a first round pick from some team so they can acquire Melo. That is, I think, why Melo to NY hasn't happened as of right now.

I could easily see a: Knicks vs. Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, IF, NY gets Melo.

I would like to see Melo go play in NYC just to see Melo/Amare/CP3 vs Bosh/Wade/LeTraitor duking it out for the East

That would just suck ass. That will make more teams want to make those "super teams". Where all the stars of the league are saturated on a group of certain teams, and rest of the league will just suck.

I would really hate to see that happen, really bad for NBA and the fans.

Well Miami has already started it, I mean the only team I could see beating Miami is Boston at this point. Frankly, they are aging and won't be around much longer.

Orlando is damn good but they are lacking another star to get over the final hump and Howard needs to get an offensive game (which we may see this year).

So if a team (or a player in the east) wants to have a shot at a title, they are probably going to have to go this route. Which does suck.

I think all it would take is for CP3 to land in Orlando to make them the favorites IMO... They're at their strongest where Miami is their weakest... Plus, it fits....
