OSU sanctions to be released today (3:00 p.m.)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
“We are surprised and disappointed with the NCAA’s decision. However, we have decided not to appeal the decision because we need to move forward as an institution." - OSU AD/VP Gene Smith

With this thinking im not sure if it would've mattered if we decided to sit out a bowl this year. They might have just hit us with 2 years.

I was honestly thinking this too. What was to stop the NCAA from saying "Hey, you know what, we know you sucked this year and are just taking this ban really, really late in order to avoid a more punishing ban next year, so guess what, we are going to ban you anyway." Ban should have been early on in the season to remove any notion that we were self-imposing a ban just because we happened to suck this year.

Yes, part of the reason ESPN was so highly motivated.

That is plainly evident.

About as evident as your run-of-the-mill conspiracy theory. But whatever. You have your mind made up that OSU really didn't do anything wrong, and whatever they did do wrong wasn't all that serious and anyone saying otherwise just hates OSU and apparently the Big Ten Network.

And btw, it isn't like I think the NCAA is some benevolent institution. They blow. They will continue to blow untill something changes. See what might be happening in Georgia. Reports are Mark Richt was paying members of his staff out of his own pocket because he believed they weren't getting paid enough. Now why the fuck is that a violation? Why should the NCAA care about a coach paying his coaches more money on his own dime? THey shouldn't, but apparently it's a violation. Only the NCAA is allowed to make money off of college football, not assistant coaches.

Thank god. If he tried to appeal, NCAA would stick us with 2 more years of bowl bans, 10 more schollies, and charge Tressel with the Kennedy assassination on principal.

just redshirt everyone. even Braxton. fuckit.

I don't think they did anything wrong?

:chuckles:

Please, shelve your OSU hate for five seconds and at least be rational about it.

Where is the uproar over Oregon? Have you actually seen what they've done?

Take a look around at the other schools violations, their severity, and their media coverage.

It's fairly evident.

I do think the overall punishments were a little severe. Lost a coach, vacated 2010, 2011 was nuked from the beginning, lost scholarships and a bowl ban, plus Tressel got a show cause. First school ever to get hit with a bowl ban without a LOIC charge attached. If this is the NCAA's way of saying we are going to start enforcing stricter punishments, then fine. Other schools will receive far worse in the future.

However, I am at a loss at Gene Smith's incompetence over this whole thing. I can't understand how he could misread the NCAA so terribly. If you consider that 2010 being vacated as a "lost" season, then he let this scandal basically wipe out 3 full seasons, plus future loss of scholarships.

Can Andy Geiger come out of retirement?

Gene is a complete ruh-tard. What the fuck is he still working there for? They should have cleaned house this summer.

If the BOD had ousted Smith this summer, got a new AD and self-imposed a bowl ban this year, we would not be getting banned next year.

This blows...

I am going to convince myself that we would've gotten a 2012 bowl ban regardless. Because if not, then Smith not only deserves fired, but tarred and feathered as well.

Smart money would be on Jeff Kaplan to succeed Gene Smith.

You've got to think they are planning an exit strategy.

I can't think of something I care less about than Tressel getting some show cause thing. Seriously, who cares.

Well, basically means he can't coach again, and is banned from and contact with OSU for sometime.

Didn't he speak to the team before the Michigan game?
