OSU sanctions to be released today (3:00 p.m.)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
IMO, the great unknown that has hung over the program for a year was far worse than the actual penalty. Spreading nine scholarships out over three years is unfortunate, but not program crushing. With Urban Meyer's track record, top players will be willing to wait just a year to contend. In fact, many new recruits were planning on red shirting for a year anyways.

I'm surprised that people are surprised about this.

Gene Smith has been a disaster and deserved to be fired a while ago, if not when Tressel was fired. But, I certainly don't think the punishment is out of the ordinary or unfair in anyway. Looking at other programs and what happene to them, this program deserved a bowl ban.

Gene Smith does need to be fired. I believed there wouldn't be a bowl ban because Gene would've implemented one this year to satisfy the NCAA. A miscalculation of that magnitude is unacceptable.

I am fine with the ban loss of scholarships piss me off but this sets me off...

slmandel Stewart Mandel
Committee opted not to impose longer ban after weighing "overall seriousness of the case in light of other recent major infractions cases"

Now after this whole clown circus, why would you ever have trusted Gene Smith's judgment? He's been wrong at basically every turn.

You're not surprised that OSU became the first university in NCAA history to receive a bowl ban without a "Lack of Institutional Control" penalty?

The media crushed OSU because of Jim Delaney's formation of the Big Ten Network, what you're witnessing is the NCAA's over-reaction to that media firestorm.

So we all agree Gene Smith should be fired and he made an error. Let's just put that under the mutually understood response to this news. But I heard Matt Millen saying this won't affect recruiting much at all and I hope he is right. I think that is the main fucking issue we need to be worried about. We just had a ridiculous week or two of recruiting by Meyer and now we're in the dead period and this news comes out.

I'm not terribly surprised either. It's unprecedented...but it's also Ohio State. They were always going to be an example, and opportunity for the NCAA to flex its muscles. I'm happy it wasn't worse.

Yes that's it. IT was all a media formulated conspiracy based on the obvious hatred for the Big Ten Network.

And I would just like to point out for one last time it wasn't about players get tats for gear. It was a about a coach covering it up. That shit does NOT go on everywhere, and even if it does it normally isn't found out. Even in the case of Auburn, there is no evidence that Gene Chizik new of Newtorns pay for play stuff.

Yes, part of the reason ESPN was so highly motivated.

That is plainly evident.

Yes. I was burned by trust in an incompetent administrator. Luckily, he'll be gone soon and I could falsely trust a new one.

With this thinking im not sure if it would've mattered if we decided to sit out a bowl this year. They might have just hit us with 2 years.

Didn't he say he would go on the offensive if they got a ban? What the hell did that even mean, Gene?
