Tweet by Shefter...but yeah, he is a bum. Seattle only had to give up a late round pic because of his salary, bottom line. Nobody can produce anything that he was a cancer to the Browns or the Bucs at any time. Just a figment of many people's imagination, pretty much spouting at the mouth with no regard to the facts.
Older, limited, and not what he was in 2007? Sure. Still one of the top receiving TEs in the league? yes.
See below:
“What’s going on in the Bucs locker room is there’s been a festering wound growing for a long time. What Greg is trying to do is clean out that wound,” Wunsch said.
There’s no denying that Winslow has been an important part of the Buccaneer offense, catching 218 passes over the past three seasons. As Schiano and the organization try to move forward, the overall health of the locker room and the team as a whole is much more important than the prowess of only one player.
“Winslow hasn’t shown Greg that he wants the job,” Wunsch said. “Winslow is a talented athlete, but that only takes you so far.”

Perhaps the tipping point came when Winslow skipped (voluntary) OTAs last week, OTAs that virtually all of his teammates were able to attend.
While the Bucs may part with one of the highest-paid tight ends in football, and essentially admit they
made a mistake back in 2009, this is without a doubt the right move for the organization moving forward.
The Bucs rid themselves of a potential lingering headache in the locker room and even found some value for the volatile Kellen Winslow.

As former Giants receiver Amani Toomer famously explained it during Super Bowl week on NBC SportsTalk, the development of Giants quarterback Eli Manning became impeded by the constant demands of former Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey for the ball. In light of evidence that Winslow may have been doing just that to Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman in 2011, it could be that the Bucs concluded that having Winslow on the roster would make it harder for Freeman to reach his full potential.

Browns GM defends suspension of TE Kellen Winslow. Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage emotionally defended his decision to suspend tight end Kellen Winslow, who claims the club tried to cover up his staph infection and has appealed his one-game ban without pay.Savage suspended Winslow for his disparaging comments and behavior following Sunday's loss in Washington. Winslow, who agreed to keep his medical condition private, revealed he had staph and said the Browns, who have had a high number of staph cases in recent years, still have a problem with infections.

In seven years of NFL football, he has 23 touchdowns. That would be just over 3 per season. He's had 13 in his three seasons with Tampa Bay, which isn't bad, but isn't stand-out. Comparing your guys' tweet, Tony Gonzalez has had 48 TDs over those seven years and 19 in the past 3 years with his new team. Antonio Gates has had 25 TDs in the past 3 years and 74 since 2004 (since his 2nd year in the pros). Just because a guy makes a lot of catches doesn't mean that he's a great player. It just means he catches the ball.
Here is a list of TEs that have performed better (in no particular order).
1) Tony Gonzalez
2) Antonio Gates
3) Jason Witten - 16 TDs in the past 3 seasons and 40 since 2004
4) Vernon Davis - 26 TDs in the past 3 seasons, 35 since his career started in 2006
5) Dallas Clark - 15 TDs in the past 3 seasons, 45 since 2004 (2003, he had 1)
6) Greg Olsen - 18 TDs in past 3 seasons, 25 since 2007
7) Heath Miller - Only 10 TDs in past 3 seasons, but 31 since 2005
8) Visanthe Shiancoe - 16 TDs in past 3 seasons, 25 since 2004
9) Todd Heap - Only 13 TDs in past 3 seasons, but 32 since 2004
10) Brent Celek - 17 TDs in past 3 seasons, only 19 since 2007
That is just 10 guys who've been around roughly as long as Winslow. This, mixed with the careless injury doing tricks on his motorcycle, his unwillingness to block, demand for the ball and personal fouls on the field tell me that this is more than a figment of one's imagination.
