Re: Three-Way ORL/Nets Trade Rumor - Cavs pull out!

I can't believe a 7 foot center that averages 7 rebounds of game can get a max contract. The new world of sports we live in.

As long as Humphries is no longer a Net next season, I bet you 5,000 rep points via v-bookie he is above 8 rebounds a game next season.

You are being too generous. 7 rebounds. Ha! two years ago he averaged less than 6 per game in 35mpg, and last year was 3.6 RPG (Granted it was only 5 games, and he was only getting 27 MPG, but still)

Nice offensive weapon, though.

What is Charlotte doing? I am hope they sign the guy. I dont know what their cap space is but it puts us in a more enviable position.

Re: Three-Way ORL/Nets Trade Rumor - Cavs pull out!

Why are people mad about the Net/BK situation on this forum?

Re: Three-Way ORL/Nets Trade Rumor - Cavs pull out!

Lopez should just take the offers he's been given. The Nets are just using him as a pawn. Portland is not a bad place to go.

The Nets are screwed, and I'm loving every minute of it. More so Dwight Howard is screwed.

Re: Three-Way ORL/Nets Trade Rumor - Cavs pull out!

Portland's O would look nice, but that interior D would just get torn up. Aldridge is an O.K. defender, but Lopez??? Not so much.

Aldridge would also go from having Marcus Camby as a help side defender to Brook Lopez....lol

All of the shifts in reporting over the last few days leads me to one conclusion... The Nets don't have enough assets to complete a trade for Dwight Howard.

I think sometimes we the fans, the media, and maybe even people leaking rumors begin to think a trade is inevitable because Team X (in this instance the Nets) are going to get their guy. But what happens when they don't have what the other team wants? And what happens when they try to pull in other teams to make the offer more appealing and they don't like what you have to offer?

In the end, the Nets won't land Dwight Howard because they can't.

You may have a point, but DH's contract situation and his threat to not resign with a team he doesn't like has really shrunk the amount of suitable trade partners. Which team with assets has the guts to take the risk of a one year rental.

The Nets may not have a whole lot to offer, but the Magic don't have that many other options. And that's why the involvement of a third team makes sense.

I agree. I might go high as 10 a game or a 9.6, 9.7. Hump is a stat freak. Without him Lopez can get the 4 or 5 easy boards where the team is heading down the court, then you factor in his offensive tip ins and a few more boards. He should average a double double without hump on his side.

Dude I had to reread this twice and I still don't fully know what you're saying

I think he's saying it's you (us), not him..:chuckles:

Nets near deal with Brook Lopez, time running out for Dwight Howard trade
7 minutes ago

As the Brooklyn Nets warded off the advances of a potentially devastating Charlotte Bobcats offer sheet for Brook Lopez, time was running out on the franchise's ability to give Dwight Howard a trade to his preferred destination.

The Nets and Brook Lopez moved closer to completing an agreement for a five-year, $78 million maximum contract extension, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Once Lopez signs with Brooklyn, the franchise's pursuit of a Howard deal officially ends.
Orlando has became aggressive again with Houston in trade talks on Tuesday, and is still holding dialogue with the Los Angeles Lakers and other teams about a Howard blockbuster. After a three-team deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers fell apart this week for Howard, the Nets were scrambling to find a way to do a trade directly with Orlando, or perhaps even recruit additional teams at this late stage in the Lopez talks, sources said.

Nets president Billy King made an improved offer on Wednesday morning to spare the Nets the turmoil of Lopez signing an offer sheet with the Bobcats, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. King made the first four years and $58 million of the extension fully guaranteed – no partial guarantees to account for Lopez’s foot problems – and the two sides were negotiating on the fifth year of a potential $78 million extension.
King was meeting with Lopez’s agent, Arn Tellem, on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
Now, the Bobcats can’t offer Lopez more guaranteed money than the Nets are giving him. Once an agreement is reached on Wednesday, the Nets still had a window to try and complete a sign-and-trade deal with Orlando for Howard, but the possibility was fading fast. Once Lopez signs with the Nets – or were to sign an offer sheet – the Nets would no longer be able to use him in a sign-and-trade scenario.
Brooklyn was still working to find potential three-team deals where another team would take Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade to assist in getting Howard, but they were running out of time. Portland is one destination that the Nets explored on Wednesday, but there didn’t appear to be traction there, sources said.

Re: Three-Way ORL/Nets Trade Rumor - Cavs pull out!

The amount of money they are going to have tied up over the next 4 seasons in a 30+ SG, a 30+ SF, and a center coming off a season filled with multiple foot injuries is staggering.

Re: Three-Way ORL/Nets Trade Rumor - Cavs pull out!

If you go through the numbers, he's without a doubt one of the worst rebounding big men in the game. It's not just simply how much he averages per game that tells you this

His rebounding rate was among one of the worst in the NBA (not counting last year, I realized he played just 5 games)

Bynum's rebounding rate is pretty close to Humps. Gasol still managed to average over 10 a game.

In 2011 Lopez's rebounding rate was just 17.9, that takes into account defensive and offensive rebounding opportunities, etc. That's borderline terrible. In fact his rebounding rate isn't much better than Ryan Hollins who was just 14.9 for us last season.

Lopez will likely never average a double double in his career.
