2014 NFL Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not worried about weed, I'm worried about being suspended. Especially if he's sitting/waiting in the wings.

I said that with a degree of sarcasm. I don't want to touch him with a ten foot pole, period. But nevertheless, he and Gordon would probably rival Cheech and Chong. I would certainly worry about detriment to the team as well as suspension.

Christ, that's not even including Bess. You never know what kind of headache the team will trade for this offseason. Background checks optional, boys!

It seems like over the last few weeks Manziel has come back to the pack a little in some scout's eyes. Some of the national guys have been downgrading Manziel on their big boards. ESPN's Kiper and McShay each released their updated boards today, both put Bridgewater and Bortles ahead of Manziel. McShay dropped Manziel from 18th to 21st.

The NFL.com guys who have released big boards (Jeremiah and Brandt) both have Manziel as the top QB prospect (Brandt has Manziel as his #1 overall prospect). Charley Campbell has Manziel ahead of Bridgewater and Bortles as well. However after looking at a lot of the major draft site's big boards released since the end of the college football bowl season, Manziel is on average the 3rd highest ranked QB. Brandt lists him #1 overall but the next highest is 7th. The lowest I've seen him 38th and 32nd.

All the major ones have Bridgewater as a top 10 prospect and he ranges from #1 overall to 10th.

Bortles is on average the 2nd highest ranked QB. I've seen him as low as 6 and as high as 30th but his range is the 8-12th ranked player primarily.

Derek Carr is 4th on every board that lists a 4th QB and he averages the low 30s with his low being 21st and his high being 40th.

The rest; AJ McCarron, Mettenberger, Boyd, Garappolo, Fales, etc appear here and there but their names don't pop up unless you see a list of the top 100 or 200 prospects.

Throw out the rankings, he's #1 on the "it factor" list and that's all that matters.

You have to think these are the types of plays that will continue to work out in the Pros against faster, smarter, more talented defenses:

That last one really shows his problem. The pocket was pretty clean but he couldn't see over the top of the ILB who was firmly engaged by the center. Therefore, he scrambles backwards, almost takes a huge sack, then makes a terrible decision to throw the ball down the middle of the field while falling backwards. The worst part was that jump ball was caught. When stuff like that works for you it artificially inflates confidence. That wasn't a good play, that was a HORRIBLE play with a lucky outcome.

bone head decision on the last one, but he throws the ball from his 45 to the 20 while jumping. never noticed that. :chuckles:

Hangtime of roughly 4.2 was equally as impressive

Can't believe we're the team most linked to Manziel. He's going to bust faster than a virgin getting a lap dance from Kate Upton.

We can draft his "Moxie" then at #4 overall and him in the 6th. Brainwarp......:stick:

Question:

If Manziel can be developed to not do the bullshit he got away with in college and focus on spreading the ball downfield, hitting slants, dropping it over the 2nd unit, hitting his route tree to perfection, something he improved upon his fresh-soph year, is he a guy you want?

It'll be interesting to see his exact measurements. From a physical metrics standpoint, Bortles is the most logical fit, followed by Carr.

Don't be scared of success Cleveland, embrace it. Embrace Johnny. Soak up the moxie as it's marched from endzone to endzone this fall.

This match was made in heaven. Pettine knows he doesn't even need an OC for the kid, you can't draw up charisma on a dry erase board. I know with everything in me Johnny will be the pick. Does anyone else have any doubt at all that's who's name we are calling in a couple months?

I think you can't change Manziel and that's the problem. Not because he won't change but because if you take away his improvisational opportunities you will take away everything that makes him a difference maker.

The team that drafts him will have to live with the the boom/bust plays. If you try to control him and play within a system I think he is going to fail and fail spectacularly.
