Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The only negative I saw in Delly this post season was that his shot faded..not that he was a good shooter, but what he had vanished..will miss lob throws..
I still wonder if he wasn't worn down a bit.

Why do people think you can keep minutes if you've got bad players on the bench? The regular season does matter for just that reason.

Coaches, GMs, fans, and particularly the players aren't gonna catch L after L just because the bench is bad. The starters will play more minutes to keep that from happening. It happens over and over again.
Yep.

Yet, Delly was awful in 2014/2015 during the regular season. What if Griff thinks 2 below average post seasons and one bad regular season = pretty good chance he's not worth he tax/10 million for THIS team.

Griff doesn't buy that Delly is the guy we saw most of the regular season this year. Time will tell if he's right.

JR Smith shrunk in the Finals. Channing Frye shrunk in the FInals. Iman Shumpert shrunk in the Finals.

We getting rid of everyone, or can we open our eyes and admit the rest of the season does actually matter?
Frye was far better in the post season than Delly.

JR Smith has proven far more than Delly.

Shump could at least be on the floor against the Warriors. Last year he needed shoulder surgery when he playing against them when locking up Klay. He sucked big time but we could at least afford to put him on the floor this year. And he's in his career....has proven more than Delly.

Also physically Delly runs out of gas the more he plays. He ran out of gas in game 4 of the finals last year. He didn't play close to the mins of a LeBron, JR, etc throughout that season or playoffs.

This season he wore down again.

I would have kept him. But people are being far too emotional. Or maybe I trust the guys who are running things a little more.

Thank goodness David Griffin's sole confidant is a member of RCF. What's his favorite flavor of ice cream?

Just terrible posting full of your unsubstantiated opinions and little factual content. The Cavaliers had great talent and the highest payroll in the league, so they made some tough decisions about quality players who demanded higher salaries. That doesn't mean Delly wasn't a very good guard.. he was just an expensive guard.

Delly will be a starter or 6th man in Milwaukee. He's a quality player, everyone in the NBA gave up this narrative a long term ago. Give it a rest.

I disagree on the bolded completely. We don't win G6 without him by any stretch. As far as Shump, he was ass the whole year and Frye, I maintain, was acquired as insurance against a possible Love trade, cause otherwise it makes zero sense to acquire him knowing our chief opponent to be the Ws.

I completely agree with everything you said, except for the higher salary part. $9.5 million over 4 years is quite reasonable for a player like Delly.

That forces me to believe that Griffin thinks he can replace what Delly brought to the table with lesser role players, which remains to be seen. Griff lucked into Dunleavy, has a hope and a prayer with Felder, and we'll see what else he does to fill the void left by Delly.

Quality player, yes. Good enough quality for the Cavs to see him as a piece they couldn't do without? No.

Little factual content?

Was Delly good or not the last two playoffs? Did he shoot 35% from the field in two playoffs and one regular season these last two years? Did his 3 point shooting dip tremendously in the playoffs?

I never said Delly the player was awful. He just might not be the guy we saw most of the regular season. Especially on this team under Lue. Time will tell with the Bucks.

I wish Delly luck. But I'm not going to act like we know for SURE he's a very good guard. Time will that. We do know he struggled last year. Put together a couple of nice games in the playoffs before running out of gas. He played very well this season and then his play dropped considerably. We'll see how he does with the Bucks. Hope he does well. Not losing sleep over it IMO.

I hate it comes off that I'm hating on a guy who was as classy and gave it his all like Delly. Fans really appreciate his efforts and he will be missed. I also acknowledge that he did a lot of stuff that didn't show up in the stat sheet that helped us win games. He deserves his appreciation not dismissiveness. So for that I'll leave it alone and just wish him good success in the future.

If you are looking at his contributions in the 2014/2015 playoffs as a negative, our conversation shouldn't have to go any further. He made game winning plays, not just positive contributions. He made a name for himself internationally with his play, despite some inconsistent shooting.

There's more to the game than shooting percentage. His defense off the ball and on the ball was impeccable, and that side of the ball got him paid. Your stats on shooting alone eliminate so much of Dellavedova's contributions I can see why your opinion is so limited.

In the Detroit series this year, his shot was still falling. In Atlanta, his +/- and advanced stats were srrong, but the shot wasn't falling. Staff at RCF heard that he aggravated a lingering injury. Combine that with Shump getting 100% healthy, and Lue focused on acclimating Shump. We won the series with Golden State despite uneven play from Shumpert, and have no interest in second guessing decisions that ended so well.

However, your lens toward Dellavedova is clouded with preconceptions. Perhaps it's because he is no longer a Cavalier, that is for you to figure out. I'm just weary of the fans who come up with reasons to put down a player when they don't play for their home team anymore, even if it means making up reasons that don't exist. I'm watching the Bay Area do it to Harrison Barnes and Bogut right now and they come off like ignorant assholes.

I'm glad the light bulb finally turned on for you. All the best, go Cavs.

Frye was acquired to pull Drummond and JV out of the paint. It turned he was equally good at pulling Horford and Biyombo out of the paint. Don't put all your eggs trying to beat one team or you'll have a team like Orlando sneak up on you or ironically pull a Shaq deal that totally blows your chemistry.

Yes we should make moves to match the juggurnaut that is the Warriors but that doesn't mean you sacrifice players who make it far easier to make sure you get to the Finals in the first place. Drummond is going to get better, JV will be healthier, etc.

?

Delly couldn't even make it on the court. JR and Shump played meaningful minutes all series long and defended very well.

people still arguing over Delly even now when he has left the building. Hilarious. The only winner here has won a title and will be approx $40 million richer in time while being undrafted. checkmate
