All you who are offended by the Chief Wahoo logo... if you're sooooooo offended by it, I'm guessing that none of you has purchased Indians' gear in the 65 years of them using the current logo? Right? Because if you have, even if the stuff you bought doesn't feature the logo, you still made purchases that help to support the organization that makes money from the logo - a "racist" logo to use the word some of you have ascribed to it.

If you truly believe the organization is being "insensitive" and that the logo is "racist", then stop talking and actually DO something about it. If you're sooooooo offended by it, put your money where your mouth is. Burn ALL of your Cleveland Indians items and then refuse to buy ANYTHING Cleveland Indians related until they get a new logo. After all, why are you financially helping to prop up an organization that actively uses racism in an effort to turn a profit? I'm guessing cuz it's easier to bitch and moan and hyperbolize than it is to be truly outraged.

All you hypocritical "Internet Message Board Warriors" can take your holier-than-thou attitude and STFU. Your actions speak infinitely louder than your words do.

I love how it took almost 40 pages for folks who think it's perfectly ok to come back around and show up and attempt to Trump up the argument by shouting louder. Kind of amazing that folks still can't see the issue...

You going for a re-branding?

If they choose to get rid of Chief Wahoo, I have no problem with it.
If they choose to keep Chief Wahoo, I have no problem with it.

Ultimately, it means little to me. It's a LOGO and nothing else.

It may not mean much to an individual, but there are larger implications at stake - mainly the whole PC movement and what else could stem from such a decision to change it.

by the time the Native Americnas were beaten in war and relocated their numbers were already heavily devastated by disease that in no way was spread intentionally. this wasn't biological warfare and Stannard was wrong on many counts.

to say that Europeans for 500 years moved to America with the sole intent to eradicate native American with smallpox is just absurd.

There far cry between what was systematically happening to the jewish people of Nazi Germany and the plight of Native Americans in America

Now your inferring I'm acting like klansman or a Nazi. real slick.

but summing up 500 years of history in one word with a negative connotation does not make it so.

comparing an an intentional disregard for human life with millions of immigrants unwitting infecting the native population with germs they hadn't had time to build an immunity to is just completely irresponsible

This is totally off base. Hitler used the genocide against native Americans as a template and inspiration for the Holocaust.

I can't believe how ignorant this thread is. Grow up.

My opinions on race issues were less nuanced as a kid when I loved the team and purchased gear.

How about instead of irrationally burning things, I have logical discussions to make people realize how racist the logo is in hopes of making a rational case for its removal?

No, fuck that...ill just burn shit. Because rationality.

When I see Chief Wahoo, or hear of the Cleveland Indians, I immediately think of baseball, nothing more, nothing less. Just baseball, good weather, beer, hot dogs, fireworks, drum banging, the boys being back in town, getting a few autographs outside the parking lot, etc.

This racist BULLshit is making something out of nothing.

Do you own Indians gear? If you do, and we use the logic of a lot of people in this thread, that makes you a racist.

So burn/destroy/throw away/get rid of your gear, or else your words are empty. Your actions speak louder. You're fine with personally owning items that helped to support an organization that uses racism to make a profit.

I get it. Libs always have to say "Do as I say, not as I do." Cuz their actions RARELY demonstrate an active adherence to their own claims.

Honestly, to me, this is a mountain out of something that isn't even a molehill. I can't fathom spending hours discussing it. It is attention whoring by some Native Americans who want to feel they have the power to force other people to do as they say. It gives them a feeling of greater self-importance than whatever else they managed to accomplish (or not accomplish) with their lives. Plenty of other Native Americans don't give a shit about it because they're not trying to manufacture some meaning in their lives.

I put it on the same level of Lighten up, Frances/I don't give a shit as people whining about dreadlocks, cultural appropriation and offensive Halloween costumes. I'm half Polish. When i was a kid, 80% of jokes were Polish jokes, and i didn't get all hot and bothered by it.

Finally, the mere fact that someone is demanding something of me makes me that less likely to do it. I dig in my heels just to bug them. That's pretty much exactly where i am with Chief Wahoo. I don't really care, except I don't want to knuckle under to PC bullies.

These bigots in here disrespecting the chief wahoo are the real fucking racists. Let the cartoonish make believe character that looks like nobody in this world be left alone.

I'd like to know from all the outraged people here... IN THE INTERESTS OF BEING CONSISTENT...

Should we outlaw caricature artists at theme and amusement parks? I'm talking about the artists who draw caricature portraits of people for money. Should we prohibit them from doing their drawings, because I'm certain they've drawn caricatures of minorities. I mean, clearly, that makes them racists, right?

I personally dont understand how anyone is this passionate about Chief Wahoo one way or the other unless you are a Native American who is offended.

I have been a die hard Indians fan for 40 years. My first great sports memory was my late Grandpa taking me to Indians games as a kid when i was 3 years old. It remained a tradition until I moved away from college. So I have a big emotional connection with the Chief and the Indians.

That said, I see how it can be considered offensive, and if some people are offended then we should change it. It is just a symbol, and I think Cleveland Spiders or what ever they change it too will be just fine.

Look last time the Indians won a world series the Cavs didnt even exist and look how passionate we are about them. It will be fine, the team isnt moving, just probably an old outdated symbol of a different time.
