JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is all going to work out perfectly. Increase Shump's role to continue to increase his trade value (or, letting him develop into the starter he was always intended to be), and have ample room to continue grooming Liggins for a defensive role in our lineup.

Put JR on a shelf and get him nice and healthy for the post season.

Finally, it puts a fire under Grant/Gilbert's collective asses to make moves. All in all, I think this will be good in the long run.

I like Liggins with the starters, given how JR was playing we will be OK assuming its 4-6 week type of time frame.

The main problem is Lue can't just start overplaying Lebron to make up for it, he will have to roll the dice with giving some bench guys extended run or Griff will need to get him a wing player he will trust.

Liggins was already soaking up minutes and doing relatively well, RJ gets the benefit of the doubt...

The scary thing will be the Mike Dunleavy minutes.

Go to the Dunleavey thread. And then let your worries go.

If this injury means Liggins is going to get a clear role and consistent burn, this may be a blessing in disguise come playoff time. Liggins has all the tools, he just needs that time/confidence that he belongs. He's a game changer on the end of the floor that we tend to struggle the most.

maybe this will allow Dunleavy to stop being such a pussy

JR looked like he was getting back into game shape. His shots were going down too. Oh well. 4-6 weeks is likely until the end of January. The timing is favorable because it's pre all-star break. He'll have the whole second half to prepare for the post-season. This adds much needed pressure to get another wing.

Start Liggins. He plays well with the starters, doesn't have to score, and the experience will be invaluable if he makes the post-season rotation. Which I think he will. Keep Shump on the bench.

Only out 4-6 weeks??? That doesn't seem nearly long enough. I would guess 6-12 especially with surgery required

Minor surgery on the break, its just done to set it properly.

Most dont realize but a break is much better than ligament damage, breaks heal 100% and much quicker. We will know the true timeline once the surgery happens, but 6 weeks seems reasonable if no ligaments or tendons were severally damaged.

What we do with Shump depends on whether the team is thinking about trading him. I could see where we start Shump to showcase him as "starter level talent," but then pull LBJ quickly to play with Liggins and the bench unit.

And for comparison, my son broke his arm recently playing flag football. He was able to continue playing flag football 6 weeks later, so this seems reasonable.

(and yes, while true, this is sarcasm)
