Kyrie ranked #1 among the players.... Kevin Love ranked #7... Both having equally great seasons.
I think this has a lot to do with who the players feel is more dangerous on the court; from a purely basketball standpoint, who is the more dangerous threat. I don't think they really care about the stat lines when making these decisions.
Curious to hear opinions on this?
I wanted to mention this but didn't know where since the Kyrie thread is on temporary lockdown.
I thought it was impressive that the players put Kyrie at 1, especially since he's such a young fella. Being respected by your peers is really one of the biggest compliments you can receive.
In terms of player voting, a large portion probably falls on game-planning. Players know who and how they had to attack the Cavs to try to win. Cutting off the head of the snake for us involves neutralizing Kyrie--because teams go in knowing LeBron is going to get his 25, it's a matter of how much help he's going to get from teammates.
This is probably remembered when voting. And my theory on Kevin Love? Being a third option for us hurt him because players are consciously aware. Kyrie and LeBron drew more of their attention, allowing Kevin to do what he does.
Not to mention, despite playing well defensively this year, he still has the reputation that he can be attacked on the other end.
Kevin has been awesome this year and certainly deserves to be an all-star, but I think being a third option on our team hurt him in the player vote. He doesn't get enough credit for his impact on the team.
