I would have done thisIf I'm his press secretary, here's what I write up for him:
"I saw that some sources were indicating that Obama's inauguration crowds were larger than the one yesterday. Barack's inaugurations were historically well attended, so if that's the case...so be it. Regardless...we have more important things to move on to so if you'd like to continue debating on this it will be amongst one another with no further acknowedgement from me."
There.
He gets his acknowledgement of Barack being popular without saying what kind of President he was. He leaves it open to the possibility that Barack's fucking HISTORICALLY MASSIVE crowds might have been (definitely were) better attended, he makes the media look like assholes if they keep debating it, he shocks the world by being above the fray for once and he indicates he has something better to do.
And I would have him do this the rest of the time he's in office.
Hell...if he wants to, he can even throw in a couple sarcastic facial expressions.
"President Obama's inauguration had historic attendance numbers. However, the enthusiasm was wasted with years of sluggish economic growth. We are less worried with a good photo op and more worried about getting the economy moving in the right direction."
If 2 idiots like us can come up with a better response, imagine what people who actually know what they are doing could do? Instead we got an obvious lie.
