Trump's Presidency

If I'm his press secretary, here's what I write up for him:

"I saw that some sources were indicating that Obama's inauguration crowds were larger than the one yesterday. Barack's inaugurations were historically well attended, so if that's the case...so be it. Regardless...we have more important things to move on to so if you'd like to continue debating on this it will be amongst one another with no further acknowedgement from me."

There.

He gets his acknowledgement of Barack being popular without saying what kind of President he was. He leaves it open to the possibility that Barack's fucking HISTORICALLY MASSIVE crowds might have been (definitely were) better attended, he makes the media look like assholes if they keep debating it, he shocks the world by being above the fray for once and he indicates he has something better to do.

And I would have him do this the rest of the time he's in office.

Hell...if he wants to, he can even throw in a couple sarcastic facial expressions.
I would have done this

"President Obama's inauguration had historic attendance numbers. However, the enthusiasm was wasted with years of sluggish economic growth. We are less worried with a good photo op and more worried about getting the economy moving in the right direction."

If 2 idiots like us can come up with a better response, imagine what people who actually know what they are doing could do? Instead we got an obvious lie.

That's actually what he said about abortion. He wants to appoint pro life judges to over turn Roe v Wade. He said that the gay marriage issue was "settled" because of Obergefell vs Hodges.

It's weird because it seems he's implying that SCOTUS can overturn RvW but not OvH, which is obviously not true. If he appoints judges who will overturn RvW, decent chance they would also overturn OvH.

Let be clear. He stated that abortion is constitutionally a state right and gay marriage is constitutionally a federal right and that they should be legislated as such.

For the record, I'm pro choice... But the Constitution is clear that abortion laws are a state right.

So you're citing fake news now?

Was it an alternative fact when you claimed in god we trust wasn't on US money until 1957?

If I missed this upthread I apologize, but I have to ask you: Do you agree that Sean Spicer was giving "alternative facts", and do you support Conway for saying it? Do you believe there is such a thing as "alternative facts"? I'm not attacking, I'm honestly interested to see how hardcore Trump supporters feel about that.

It's blowing my mind, but we all know I'm a snow flake.

1st Trump made up alternative facts. So using it against anti-trump stuff is laughable.

2nd it isn't a fact. It is still my opinion. People are painting that scene of signs all over the ground like it is protestors being lazy and hypocritical. It was calculated. I'm happy to entertain the idea that it sucks for the minimum wage guys who have to clean it up.

Also littering sucks, but paper on the ground is not the same degree of damage as dismantling the EPA and removing climate change as an important issue.

Do you realize how childish it is to be like, "Climate change ain't real, but these signs is destroying the earth. Thus women are the real hypocritical polluters!"

Every argument is couched in false equivalencies.

Relax. It's a joke.

He stated a fact. They littered.
You stated an alternative (different) fact. It was political speech.
I thought, haha, a "alternative fact". In light of the stupidity of that statement being made, that term was funny. So I posted it. I recognized it might be taken poorly, so I put a smiley face after it. You know, to indicate a joke.

To go beyond the joke though, if you want my actual opinion. You're both right (that's why I cede you both said facts). It is littering and political speech. There's a level of irony to it that you have to see, but it would be more ironic if it were an actual protest about environmental rights.

In the future though, what do I need to do to illustrate a comment is a joke if a smiley face doesn't do it? How many pieces of LOL flare does my post need to be taken with positive intent?

**EDIT**

Bolded above to highlight this edit. That after reading it back to myself is potentially ambiguous. I did NOT mean your statement was stupid. I meant the original "alternative fact" statement made by Conway was stupid. Please don't infer offense there, none was intended.

He really does seem to be setting us up for an all-out religious war.

I think the media was wrong on the MLK bust and the overhead views of the mall that were taken at 10:17 and 11:03 respectively. Looking at CNN's gigapixel image you can see they are wrong and it filled in during the speech. Was funny watching Anderson Cooper last night showing the image from NYT that was from 11:04 and then saying does it look like Trump had more. Meanwhile I'm looking at their gigapixel where it is full. So for that yes the media was dishonest.

Many people I know who attended said the security started 3 miles from the inauguration and most only got in halfway through the speech. They said the media is full of it and the only empty spots on the mall were media staging areas. I feel like I am literally the only one who went and looked at all of the images available to me and made a decision. Most seem to be just parroting what the media tells them even though they can easily refute it on those media companies own websites.

So from what I can see Spicer lied or conflated the Metro numbers. Then it seems they also shut down the National Parks Twitter which is not cool, but if they are retweeting this mistimed NYT comparison then why let them get away with it?

So we have Spicer wrong on the Metro numbers, using full day numbers for this year and half day numbers from 2013. Why does the media get a pass to blatantly lie? Wathing CNN last nght and this mroning they are still showing the very first image in this string, even though their gigapixel image refutes it.

What's your take? Please back it up with verifiable evidence as I have tried to do for you.

You keep making it about me. I'm saying the Supreme Court.

Look, it's good man. I'm going to click the Disagree button to illustrate my disagreement to this conversation string and drop it. I'm telling you (and anyone else I may click disagree to in the future) it's not an attack, it's just a way to say, "I disagree" without having to put up a bunch more words into a dead horse conversation. Feel free to disagree me, no offense taken.
You disagree that a tax cant be used as an incentive.?
As far as the supreme court ruling. 5 justices indicated they did not believe it was a tax and 4 of them voted against Obamacare. 4 of the 5 who voted for Obamacare called it a tax..

I don't think I never disputed it was a tax but the tax is there as a penalty/ Incentive/ alternative to not opting into Health insurance coverage.

click disagree all you want. I'm not sure what your disagreeing with. I never called it an interstate commerce fee.

I acknowledged it was a tax and you have yet to offer anything to show that the tax isn't there as an Incentive/penalty to encourage healthy people to opt in to health coverage.

If you're more interested in protest signs on the ground then a UN exit that would drastically change not only our foreign policy, but the current structure of world alliances, then you may want to re-evaluate your political priorities. It's a huge deal.

I was imagining that as sarcasm. It's interesting, but this is really where we need the press. I have absolutely no context into what or why that's there. Until then, you only have enough information to panic or wait for more information.

Ok this is something I completely don't understand or have any knowledge on. Why is this even a thing. I have heard this for the past few weeks that it would start war if he moved it. To me it seems ridiculous that it's even an issue where our Israeli embassy is. So school me on why this matters because it seems silly to me.

So, general question to the community. I'm personally looking to inform myself of others opinions, stances and such and to share mine in what I hope to be constructive conversations that drive personal introspection and hopefully others will do the same.

I feel it's really important to talk civilly about topics and not take mean spirited shots. Funny is funny, I think we all know mean vs funny.

With that said, I'll try and discuss and elaborate on my opinions and how I see things in the hopes of positive dialogue but I also recognize this being the internet, there are trolls. I don't really know who is who on that. Is there like a known list of card carrying GNAA members on this forum that I can save myself some time with? I don't mean someone opinionated one way or the other, but honest trolls that I should be cautious in spending much time addressing?

Thanks in advance!

You're not the only person who went and looked. I spent a little time on it. Then I thought to myself. Why do I care about a penis measuring contest and the following hyperbole.

The answer there would be precedent of an administration official telling a lie. Personally, I think there's a lot more lies coming from our government, regardless of the ruling party, to find outrage in then someone saying their penis is larger.

Because putting our Israeli embassy in a city that is known as the capital of Israel AND Palestine probably isn't a great idea.

Putting the embassy there and calling it our Israeli embassy would only serve to invalidate the Palestinian claim and further ignite a conflict resulting in much suffering in a region and further serve as a catalyst for further anti-west sentiment. What's the get here?

I kind of took it more as the media attempting to deligitamize Trumps support after a week of talking about his low approval ratings from the same genius polsters from the election. MSNBC, NYT, CNN, WAPO, ABC, and NBC showed these mistimed images and commented on the small crowd Trump had all day. My father and I were watching. From the ground view you could see white until about 12:02 from Trumps position. Then it all filled in quickly which is what Spicer said.

The media tweeted, retweeted and ran these images on TV all day. Why wouldn't this administration call them out for lying? I don't want the media misinforming me or lying to me just like I don't want the government doing it either. I'm pretty anti Repub, voting Democrat my entire life until this election. Now Fed up with both sides and like that neither side likes Trump. Must mean he is doing something right because they both bug me. I will always believe that all sides are lying and bias and seek the truth which usually is somewhere in the middle.

Why would you think it's acceptable for the media to present a false narrative on the election size and then get to say why does it matter when it's addressed? How long can they do that before we are all basing our opinions on lies. Doesn't that make us all dumber if we allow that?

Climate change is not in doubt, step outside to see. What is in doubt is how much is man made. It is much farther from conclusive than you have been lead to believe. Look at some of the actual studies. Literally if we went 100% green tomorrow in this country we would have little impact over the next 100 years.

Again, climate change is not in doubt, despite what your propaganda is telling you.

Trump: ‘I’m not a big believer in man-made climate change.’

You've had some alternative facts in here as well, like the one where you claimed in god we trust wasn't on money until 1957. You ducked the issue once a bunch of people proved you wrong. No apology or acceptance that you were wrong.

Seems kind of dishonest to me to throw out a blatant falsehood and then disappear when it's proven wrong.

I was wrong that it didn't appear on money, but it was only on some coins before 1957.

I'm sorry about that. I was wrong. It was more nuanced than I thought, but George Washington didn't make it so.

I'm a scientist, I don't really care if you believe it. Do you believe in evolution or quantum mechanics? Trump has no expertise in these matters.

I'm concerned about it, and I think companies that pollute need to pay their costs of doing business and I want them to take responsibility for theesses they make.
