The unofficial Obamacare thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why are people pissed about "Trump care" others than many will lose health coverage I get that sucks. Yet people are bitching about tax cuts for the rich and if I am wrong here does that not mean employers can extend hours and once again have their own plan? When Obamacare was in effect I was never allowed to go over a certain amount of hours, or I would have to be put on the plan paid VIA company?

Again I ask what is the real idea of this, many I talk to seem to think the Company's can save money on taxe cuts and they can pay more out with out hour restrictions. This in my eyes says more jobs and less the country being ran like a socialist country. Am I missing something here? I am honestly asking not joking around, I have no idea why both sides and not even high up leaders just Twitter people are at a huge war over this.

It doesn't suck. It is a matter of life and death for some. It also means lives will be ruined if they survive whatever it is thanks to enormous debts. It's kind of a big deal for most people to not have people they love die from an illness that is treatable for anyone with coverage.

I'm not going to get into trickle-down economics. That shit has been discredited for decades. Some employers would do the right thing. A lot more would not and never have. Never trust anyone to do the "right thing" if fucking over someone is more profitable. As for the US being run like a socialist country... if we were a social democracy we wouldn't be debating health care. Everyone would have it.

I will say this, Obamacare isn't perfect, and certainly has its issues, though many of those issues were self-inflicted by GOP politicians who would rather spite Obama than give their constituents better healthcare. However, this plan is so transparently awful that in no way can it be called an improvement. If the Republicans were really interested in fixing Obamacare all they would have to do is tweak the existing program to ensure that people under 40 weren't getting nailed with high-premiums and sort out the issue with hours you pointed out.

Unfortunately for the GOP, this plan would hit seniors the hardest. Pissing off that demographic is a really bad idea.

While I agree I will always say this and I stand by it, What is done is done. Nothing every drastically changes and Trump is still under order. Meaning he can pass his plan but so many hated Obamacare then got on it and loved it. In reality what the right does is let the public decide the plans. They are made behind closed doors with us to speculate about.

That said I know where the power lies and dies as well, This country needs the wealth and so to give tax cuts rains back on us. Trump is doing what he needs to do and that is spend money and give it to the rich and create a new economy. He means well but will these company's make good on their word?

To be honest we can not take of every person in the USA and give them what they need. This is why you see so many protested views. They got what they wanted and I still see food stamp stands. Trump will not hurt that, He wants to make people work and get this country back on track, As for seniors they will be fine they are the last leg of life, Make them happy they will die happy. Meaning their children will see this country as a place that helped them and they can benifit from it.

This is based on my understanding of what i hear in the news, so take it with a grain of salt. Trumpcare does indeed give tax breaks for the rich and from a philosophical point there is nothing wrong with it. The problem is what it means for the poor. Remember the population of the poor and lower middleclass far out weighs the population of the rich. Also, the tax breaks given to the rich does not make them richer even by 1% while the cuts for the poor really hurt them. The subsidies returned back to the users are not enough for them to buy the health care.

- A flat tax credit based on age ranging from $2,000 for those under 30 years old to $4,000 for those 60 or older while it makes sense mostly, but we know that a lot of younger people can be very unhealthy too. So assuming that younger people do not need the extra money may be fool hardy

- Folks making $20,000 a year take the biggest hit at any age under the GOP plan, a recent Kaiser study found. A 27-year-old would get only $2,000, instead of $3,225 under Obamacare, on average, while a 40-year-old would get $3,000 versus nearly $4,150.

- A 60-year-old making $40,000 would get only $4,000 from the Republican plan, instead of an average subsidy of $6,750 from the Affordable Care Act, according the Kaiser study.

-( Those are from CNN .)

Also I think medicaid is also going to have funds cut for them and a lot of that responsibility will be shifted to the states. Also, There will be no penalties for the young folks who dont sign up for insurance so how will the financial risk be spread ?

Legislation passage is not related to the needs of the voters. It is related to the strength of the lobbyists. There is no way that the voters were thinking the number one (or 2 or 3) priority for congress would be repeal of Obamacare. Its a republican party priority driven by insurance and big pharma. I am not saying Obamacare is a good thing, but I am saying that it is not the biggest problem in the room. I think there were some requirements of the Obamacare package that people should not be required to pay for, and I think that is part of what has driven up the costs. The whole idea that young healthy people would sign up in droves was just plain stupid. But extending parental insurance to cover kids up thru 26, is a great idea, and mandating coverage for pre-existing is also a great idea. Regardless, I see me getting screwed over before I hit 60..

It is unfortunate how everything has been rolled out. We are never going to get a good solution until you get the majority of Americans to think the providing healthcare is the Federal governments job. Neither this bill or Obamacare does anything to actually lower healthcare costs. We are trying to find ways to make insurance cheaper, why not find a way to make healthcare cheaper.

I think this is sort of misrepresented. Unless you make over 250K a year, you did not have to pay for Obamacare. The rich would be being taxed the same as they were pre-Obamacare.

I also want to point out, I am in favor of keeping these extra taxes in place. I don't see people making over million $'s leaving this country because of a few extra % of taxes.

What I do like about this plan is it keeps in place a lot of the good items from Obamacare, pre-exciting conditions covered & kids in college until 26. I also think it would be good to open up state lines so insurance companies can compete.

cut out the middle man. insurance. The issue is that the insurance lobby is absolutely and incredibly in bed with politicians.

That's just flatly false. There are people who paid a tax under Obamacare , who made less than $500k, who would not have to pay any tax at all now.

My brother in law bought catastrophic on the side, in a non-qualifying plan. He had to pay the ObamaCare tax for not having coverage. This bill would eliminate that tax payment.

There is a contract provision in a CBA I negotiated that provides for a 0.75/Hr. wage increase if the employer mandate is repealed. So while those workers aren't getting a tax savings, they will get more money in their pocket. They weren't getting health care under Obamacare, either.

Oh, we'll also be moving about 150 people from 27.5 hrs/wk to 37/5 hrs./week if that bill passes.

And what would happen to the millions employed by the health insurance industry?
