Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why even apply for reinstatement if you haven't been clean and know you haven't been clean....?

This guy....

Why are you assuming he's been using any drugs? His reinstatement being denied doesn't mean he was using any substances. If it was known that he was using any substances than they wouldn't have told him he could re-apply in the fall. Assuming he's is or has been using any substances recently is lazy.

This guy hates the Browns, wants off this team, and has let us down about 37 times. But yes, let's defend him.

If anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, it's Josh Gordon...

But if you're the NFL you wouldn't deny his reinstatement and then turn around and say try again in the fall if you know he's on anything. The fact that the league told him to re-apply again in the fall tells you that he's clean. He still gets tested. If he failed any test recently then they wouldn't tell him to come back again in the fall. This is common sense here not some spin.

I think Gordon is an idiot but this is pretty absurd to me.

A league that lets domestic abuser get drafted and remain in the league won't let a guy play football who is smoking herb? Goodell is a god damn idiot and his comments about weed over draft weekend just reinforce that.

Again, I'm not explicitly defending any of Gordon's past actions but this guy has been suspended for what now? Two years for smoking weed? In a league where PED users get what? 2-4 games?

Anything to back this up?

Umm having him try again in five months backs that up. I don't get why this is so confusing. A player is in the drug program. The NFL knows at any point they can test him to see if he's clean. Why would the NFL test Josh Gordon, see that he fails the test, and then say well sorry Josh even though you've been suspended for the last season and a half and you just failed another test we want you to try again in five months. He would be done if he failed a test during this current suspension so the fact that they are telling him to try again in the fall tells you that they are just punishing him to make a statement. Not because he failed anther test.

What factors are considered in determining whether he's allowed back?

Let's pursue some more common sense then...

If he did nothing wrong and he's been suspended for the last year, why didn't they just go ahead and reinstate him? His appeal was denied.

You don't just deny an application when he's eligible to apply if he's been a model citizen.

The fact that they told him no and "come back in the fall" clearly means he did something. Sure, I jumped to a failed test since it's the one and only reason he's even suspended, so sue me...

You are using the "come back in 5 months" to justify why he's clean. I am using the same "come back in 5 months" to tell you that something went wrong. Clearly.

Maybe he raped a squirrel.
You know what, that's my bad. The NFL Handbook says squirrel rape penalties will be between 4.5 and 5.5 months. That clearly fits the time-frame we are working with here. It seems so obvious now. I'd imagine that's what he did.

Notice: Clearly he did not kill the squirrel after, making it a squirrel rape/murder. That penalty, as we all know, is a minimum of 8 months.

First of, the NFL's stance on weed is ridiculous to begin with. Also I think that's it's just as ridiculous that he wasn't reinstated. Now there are some factors that the NFL probably considered when they denied his reinstatement. One of them is the fact that Josh Gordon currently doesn't have an agent. he cut ties with his agency two weeks ago. Perhaps the NFL didn't want to reinstate him knowing that he is still in a somewhat unstable situation that doesn't even include substance abuse. If they simply denied him and said listen go and continue to get you life on track and we'll see you again in five months than I can somewhat understand that.

But if he did anything wrong as far as breaking any rules then per the NFL rules he would be permanently banned. They wouldn't tell him to try again. The door would be closed on Josh Gordon. They can't allow him to try for reinstatement again if he fails another test while in the drug program which he currently is in thus interpreting them allowing hi to try again in the fall doesn't not point to him breaking any rules. As far as him doing something bad goes if he hasn't broken any NFL rules than it doesn't matter what you think bad is.

Everyone says he was busted for weed, but that is only haf true.

First bust was for weed. Cheech and Chong moment in college, passed out at taco bell drive through.
2nd bust was for purple drank, codeine
3rd bust for weed, wouldn't have been a bust under today's standards
4th bust for alcohol. In program, plead guilty to a drinking a driving, was randomly tested getting of plane in vegas.

Only half of Gordon's bust are for weed, 2 should not have been busts imo, the 3rd and 4th but he did know the rules.

Dont care much about him, he hanst been appreciative, Gordon has been pretty shady, but the stance on weed and the NFL is over the top and to say once you get a dui you can no longer drink is also ridiculous.

I say fuck Gordon and Roger Goodell.

First of all, he didn't drop his agent. His agent dropped him. When does an agent drop a player? Ding ding. They've given up on him.

A source told ESPN's Josina Anderson that Gordon's most recent agent terminated him about "about two weeks ago." NFLPA records show that person was Joby Branion, the third agent to represent Gordon in his brief NFL career. Gordon also has been represented by Drew Rosenhaus and Jeff Nalley.

Second of all, he is indefinitely suspended. He was denied when he was told he was allowed to appeal. Thus, he clearly did something. He did something. Whether you agree on the weed stance in the NFL or not, he did something against the rules.

If he had been following the rules, he....
1) Wouldn't have been dropped by his agent.
2) He would have been reinstated.

So, let's stop assuming here. The fact is he is still suspended. Players get suspended for reasons.
