Don't worry, the Cavs aren't trading Kyrie for Melo and trash. The only way the Knicks get Kyrie is with Porzingis.

The Knicks would be idiots to trade Porzingis for Kyrie. And the Cavs would be idiots to trade Kyrie for Melo. This trade ain't happening unless some front office really fucks up.

This might be nothing or it could be something. Does anyone else find it interesting that Woj's article specifically mentions 4 players as targets of the Cavaliers- Porzingis, Tatum, Jackson, & Murray?

Of the four, Porzingis & Jackson are considered to be off limits and it would be hard to see the Cavs making a trade with their conference rival, Boston. Murray, on the other hand, is very much in play and he might be the guy the Cavs want. A deal with Denver is very achievable as they have some nice, young talent to trade. Here's a deal I wouldn't mind seeing, along with draft picks coming our way:

Cavs:
Bledsoe, replaces Kyrie as PG
Melo, Much needed O, will allow Lebron to actually take a rest and Melo does his thing.
Porzingis, replaces Love as PF, also young star to build around IF Lebron blows the team up
Chandler, Adds much needed D to help against the Warriors

I feel this makes the Cavs stronger overall against the Warriors with adding MUCH better D players and not falling off to much on O! Even if it means giving up two of the big 3.

Knicks:
Kyrie, New Star of NY....Home town kid...Will sell TONS of Tickets
Love, replaces Porzingis

Knicks give up a lot in this trade to get Kyrie and Love...BUT they are also getting the worst contract in the NBA(Noah) off the books as well. Not to mention the cap saved from Melo. This will allow them to build around Kyrie and Love with the thought of bringing in another star to join them with the new freed up cap. This is a NOW+Future move for them

Suns:
1st rounder from knicks, Allows them to continue to build through the draft!
Ntilikina, replaces Bledsoe as the future PG of this young team
Shumpert, Gains Vet playoff experience to help these young players grow a little faster
Noah, sucks haha I know..But the thought is that they would be stuck with Chandlers contract either way SO they trade Chandler for Noah to make the deal work.

Bigs losers of the trade? I don't think so! They have made it very clear that Josh Jackson is off limits THUS saying they know Kyrie isn't coming to Phoenix. They are going younger! By the time JJ and the others are rdy to really compete it will be time to replace Bledsoe! This move gets them NYs 1st round pick in Ntilikina to go with the others and also gaining another 1st round pick. There are reports that the Suns are trying to move Chandlers contract off the books and so agreeing to take on Noah's contract is not that big of a difference because they are moving Chandler's. Shumpert also has a bad contract BUT at least he can add much needed Vet playoff experience to this young team.

Why help the Knicks out with Melo? Dare the Knicks to start the season with him.

What Phoenix says and what Phoenix does may be two different things considering they said they told Jackson he wouldn't be traded when they really didn't tell him that.

The Knicks will not become contenders with Kyrie/Kevin as their best players. Porzingis also has a much higher ceiling than either one of those guys. Getting Noah off the books is kind of irrelevant since they're not in a hurry to become a contender. I think people really underrate Porzingis. Defensively he's already one of the most impactful players in the whole league. Offense still needs work, but there's no denying that he'll become much much better on both ends. Once he fills up that 7'3 frame a little bit, he'll be an impossible defensive assignment with that athleticism/coordination and great touch.

That's the thing...Knicks are not contenders ATM and will not get a guy like Kyrie to pair with Porzingis because they have nothing to trade.

This trade would get them closer

No it wouldn't. They would lose a centerpiece (Porzingis). Guys like Kyrie/Love are easier to replace.

Don't rule out Porzingis.

1. His relationship with the Knicks is not good.... very distant.

2. Kyrie would commit long term to the Knicks.

3. If they use Porzingis to get Kyrie and get off of Noah's contract, in the summer of 2019, they instantly become big time free agency players.

4. In 2019, with Noah gone, NYK could carve out 2 max contract spaces, along with Kyrie, Hardaway, Ntilikina(or whatever they trade him for), and 2 first round picks (18/19...could be lottery picks)?

5. Kyrie has Olympic team.connections and is a guy that other guys would come to NY to play with. Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis etc are just a couple names that could be realistic targets.

I think the Cavs would very likely be able to get Porzingis for Kyrie as long as we took Noah on. I think the Cavs might even want a little more though.
.which complicates it. Noah's contract is the worst deal in the NBA. The Knicks would have to likely.package 2 firsts to get a team to take him..

Or they could give us Melo, should he agree to waive his NTC :chuckle:

I'd gladly take Porzingis, Melo, and the pure joy of making Noah wear the Cleveland uniform for Kyrie.

I definitely had him in.mind when I said the Cavs want more.

If things got serious in that direction...I think a LBJ phone call to Melo could easily get us back on the list.

Porzingis regressed a bit last year

I dont think knicks love him

Kyrie is a much bigger name

Do you start Wade if he comes to the Cavs?

I think it'd be easier if Kyrie was here because he's such a good shooter. However, if Rose is forced to start at PG the lack of shooting could hurt.

I will say if we're transitioning to Love being #2 on offense that a guy like Wade is a very willing passer and can find Love on plays that maybe Kyrie wouldn't have.
