Jae Crowder, See Ya When We See Ya

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lmao we're quoting ESPN player rank now.

The same player rank that has Lonzo Ball ahead of Carmelo Anthony without ever playing a game.

Okkkkkkk.

1) Feel free to quote me like a man when referring to me.

2) Carmelo Anthony isn't a particularly impactful basketball player compared to what he used to be, but either way, the rankings certainly aren't perfect and they were nowhere close to being used as the main point of my argument.

3) I appreciate you reading the entirety of my post and raising valid counterpoints instead of sarcastic, immature one-liners.

4) I'm not really sure what your point is in trolling this thread. Ignoring actual quality content and adding nothing but negative takes without explanation does not seem to further this topic. We have many new/young posters on these boards who need to learn from example. As a veteran, I would hope you'd do your part.

We both know how awful ESPN is, and ESPN Rank is a complete joke. Every. Single. Year.

I do not believe Jae Crowder to be our 3rd best (how can anyone even possibly try to say he's better than IT?). I also do not think that he is even our 4th best, or even 4th most impactful player on the roster.

As awesome of a piece he is on this roster, I absolutely think that Rose and Wade are much more important, and even better players than Crowder. The ability to slash and create for others is the most important skill in basketball. It makes everyone playing with you better, specifically guys like Crowder who don't do much off the bounce.

I love that we got him in the trade, but I've seen a lot of posts where after you've read them you would think he was an all star, or borderline all star.

Really, he's a guy who got 11 points per game at an efficient clip because of other guys around him. Something he'll do just fine here.

Just an aside, please sell me on Wade because people are tearing him apart

You're certainly entitled to your opinion on Crowder. Some of us have a different one, and that's perfectly fine.

He's actually been a 14 points per game guy--not 11--for the past two seasons at an efficient clip. You mention he only achieved those numbers because of the high-level talent around him in Boston? There was one true creator on that team--one--and it was Isaiah Thomas. I'd argue it's even more impressive what Crowder was able to do given the lack of shot creators on those Boston teams.

You mention guys like Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade, who are valuable to this team, I agree.

Derrick Rose got his 17 points per game on a 25.6% usage percentage in New York. Dwyane Wade got his 18 points per game on a 29.3% usage percentage in Chicago. On the other hand, Crowder's steady 14 points came with a very low 17% usage. He doesn't need the ball to be effective. He finds his spots. On a team of studs like Cleveland, that's important as everyone has to do more with less opportunity for the good of the team.

There's a very real argument to be made that he's going to be more impactful than these other two players on offense. That doesn't even get us started on his real end of the floor. Here, he's not going to have to work nearly as hard for opportunities, and we should expect his already stout efficiency to increase.

Now, the true impact is going to be what he does for us defensively. He will be our best and most versatile defender this season, and it likely won't even be close. The ability to put a lock-down guy on the other team's best scoring 2-4 each night? That's extremely valuable. LeBron will step it up in the postseason as he usually does, but even still, this dude is adding a whole new dynamic to our game. Physical, tough--he does everything well. He's a good basketball player.

Creating for others is certainly an important role. However, on this team, we now have four or five guys who can do that extremely well. We have good passing big-men to keep the rock moving, as well. What we need is Jae Crowder's defense, hustle, rebounding, and shot-making ability.

I said 3rd or 4th most important player, and the reason for that is Isaiah Thomas' ability to score on this team is certainly important, but with a multitude of scorers, likely less important than Jae Crowder's defensive presence. To only watch one end of the floor would be a mistake. Basketball is still won by being able to get stops when it matters. Despite his scoring prowess, Isaiah Thomas tends to give it all back up on the other end of the court. He may be our "3rd" best player, but it's close. Crowder is right there.

So sure, Jae Crowder will never be named to an All-Star team. The reason is that he won't get enough shots on this deep, deep team that we have. However, don't get caught up in the fact that he's not a point forward. He's versatile, skilled, and a heady player who deserves his due.

And no, I was not a Love for Crowder/Bradley supporter (unless it included multiple Brooklyn picks as a deal too good to pass up). Kevin Love is a stud, a player we are going to lean on this year more than ever. However, that doesn't mean you can't appreciate how good Jae Crowder continues to become in a less-heralded way.

Jae Crowder tonight:
17 points (.790 TS) 6 boards, 2 assists in 21 minutes finishing +5. This guy was a science send.

He just gets those points as quietly and efficiently as anyone ever will, too.

Knack for always moving and cutting, following his own shot, and sliding to the right spots on the floor.

Nothing to see here. Just a guy doing his job exactly how he's going to do it all season.

Did not know he could shoot the three like that....:celb (4):

Man, I know it's the preseason, and the Hawks and Pacers are both just so, so bad, but the starting lineup with LeBron instead of Wade is absolutely going to destroy teams. Then when you have the second unit being led by Wade instead of Calderon? Shit....

LeBron needs to play at least 1 or 2 preseason games just so the fans can get a taste.

Really worked on his shot and improved it last year, not sure if it will be improved this year, but he should shoot around 40% on catch and shoots from 3.
