I mean with posts like that all over this board so far, and even dating back to wanting to trade Love for him (2 years ago), I'm certainly fooled.
I've seen plenty of Jae Crowder to know that he's certainly not the 3rd or even 4th best player on this deep, deep roster. He does strictly two things well, defense and spot up shooting.
Sure. He's also a cerebral player who cuts without the ball, runs the floor, and rebounds well, too. The thing he isn't above-average at is creating for himself/others. He's a two-dribble and pull-up guy, or a one swift move and drive straight to the hoop if there's an alley guy. He knows his limitations. I applaud that as many players are still learning theirs.
On this team, that's perfect as he will be paired with two creators in LeBron/Rose (or Thomas when he returns). His physical defense is something no one on this team offers or even comes close to offering. He will likely guard the opposing team's best wing scorer every night.
We spent three years wishing for PJ Tucker and got a bigger, better, younger version who can shoot better, along with do literally everything better.
So yes, in terms of on-court impact, he is probably our 3rd or 4th best player. Isaiah Thomas may be the 3rd best player if you're speaking strictly offensive impact.
All I know is this: Jae Crowder is the type of player that LeBron James gets the most out of. If you're heady, he'll find you opportunities to score.
If you can't see that and grow annoyed over those excited about what Jae Crowder's going to bring, that's on you, not me.
And for the record, even though I don't care much about them, ESPN has him #38 in their top 100 player rankings.
#1 LeBron James, #26 Kevin Love, #33 Isaiah Thomas, #38 Jae Crowder.
...which ranks
4th on our team.

@CJC9BOSS
Last year's rank: 56
- 2017-18 projected RPM: 3.98
Stats & Info: There were three small forwards who ranked inside the top 15 at the position in both offensive and defensive
RPM. The Cavaliers now have two of them, with Jae Crowder joining
LeBron James. (The other is Milwaukee's
Giannis Antetokounmpo.) Crowder gives Cleveland another versatile defender to not only match up better with Golden State, but also spell James on the nights he needs a rest.
