Honestly, the reason these conversations go off the rails is because people are unwilling to actually discuss these kinds of topics rationally and dispassionately -- nor are they willing to consider the possibility that they might be wrong about what they so firmly believe. (And that includes these naive notions about race)

This is why, regardless of how much scientific evidence there is to support the notion that race is a social construct and not a replacement for genetic ethnicity (not remotely), we still talk about "Whites" and "Blacks" as though they are discrete ethnic groups, when the notion itself makes no sense.

What do we call the explosive leaping and fast 40 running dark-skinned guys in the NBA, NFL and track that I’m probably used to calling black? Do they not all get lumped together?

There is a high occurrence of certain genetic disorders in Ashkenazi Jews.

This is a good example of undesirable traits being bred into smaller communities over long periods of time.

Not particularly useful for professional sports and maybe part of the reason why you don’t find a lot of Epsteins and Feinbergs in the NBA. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The trade-off is that they have the highest average IQ by ethnic group along with Koreans.

As a group they were genetically self-selecting by only marrying Jews. Laws also prevented them from marrying gentiles.

So they were a small genetically isolated group. Israel is populated by Jewish ethnic groups, along with the Ashkenzem, that have a lot more variance for a number of reasons.

Didn't they also explicitly reject selecting for physical attraction in lieu of intellect?

Ahh okay that makes sense. I wasn't sure how much of Israel's population they made up.

I am not sure about that but there was also a social influence in the selection toward intellect.

For most of the Medieval-period European kingdoms banned Christians from being money lenders, bankers etc., as they considered usury a sin. As a result, Jewish communities had a monopoly on finance. That is an intellectually demanding profession and those who were smarter did better financially and thus were able to afford larger families.

Incidentally, self-loathing gay Jewish person, and Alt-Right darling, Milo Yanno... Yanniopo... Yannialpois... you know who he is, used a password for one of his email accounts, LongKnives1290, that not only commemorated Hitler's purge of the SA (led by Ernst Roehm, a well-known homosexual) but also King Edward I's expulsion of the Jews from England in 1290. Hong Kong and South Korea are tied at 108 in the surveys I've seen. Which is astounding when one considers the average in the US is 98. Which I don't believe. No way it is that high considering the people I've run into here in the Bay Area.

I do believe it about Korea though. They are smart people. Their officers are very professional and knowledgeable. Tough as nails too.

No doubt. If/when I have kids, I'd teach them to be kickers. Make a couple hundred grand a year minimum and the chances of CTE are basically nil. The other players might make more, but at least the kickers will be able to remember their careers in twenty years.
