2019 Browns Head Coach Candidates

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The majority of the NFL wanted to see this regime fail. Browns may get credit for abandoning this crazy scheme after only 2 years. At least, thats how the National Media will perceive it.

In 3 years you've gone
3-13
1-15
0-6

4-34 since 2014. Look, and I know that Hue, and whatever are not part of that first year, but that's a part of the overall narrative of ineptitude.

This isn't like a coach that went 4-12, 5-11 or 6-10 and you can go "Well maybe give him a year". This is...bad.

If we're being realistic? I think McDaniels would take the gig. He's got a big ass ego, and this is his hometown team.

BUT...We're not going to land the Hue Jackson of this cycle. Which I imagine would be some sort of Matt Patricia/Jim Bob Cooter or some other rando name I can't think of.

Now...I don't think that's hypothetically a bad hire, but as a franchise at the point we are right now...we either have to be one of two things to land "top names" consistently.

1.) Be located in some sort of "coastal" market (on either coast, and no Lake Erie doesn't count)
2.) Have a consistent winning, "historic" franchise. (which hasn't been the case since 1995)

McD would be somewhat intriguing I guess. I wonder if he'd be wanting to bring Jimmy G along with him?

I think Belichick doesn't want to give him up considering Brady is probably going to be gone in the near future.

Not that -in theory- I'd be against us going full Matt Cassel on this thing. But I mean to pry him away from Belichick would be akin to someone trying to get the 9errs to part with Steve Young.

The positive is we can at least go to bat at number 1 overall.

This is a much different situation than Cassel or Young though. Jimmy will be an FA meaning they'll have to tag him if they want to keep him. Really have no idea how they're going to work that situation out. They'd almost be ahead to trade him this year before the deadline just so they get something for him.

Normally, I would agree with you.

But Im not sure anyone could argue that destroying this regime is a bad idea. They have passed on QB Faces of the Franchise, they have allowed home grown talent to leave, while posting a 1-20 record.

I think this may be the rare occasion where pulling the plug after year two may be justified.

Oh, don't worry, we're on the same page. You kinda nailed the point I'm failing to make.... Firing Jackson would certainly be justified in our eyes and I'm just saying, if he isn't fired, it'll be because of Haslam's self-awareness of his perception around the NFL and that is the worst possible scenario.

Talent. A talented roster would attract top coaching candidates here. If by some miracle the Browns could find some talented players could Sashi and the Haslam's even identify what a top coaching candidate might look like? I'm not feeling too optimistic here....

Unlike what the Sashi Brown fan club tells you, it does not take 5 years to put a respectable team on the field. We may even look like a non expansion team as early as next year, if a competent GM is given these top 5 picks in the first two rounds to play with.
youre right, it doesnt take 5 years to put together a respectable team. But it does take more than 2 drafts, and 22 games to completely rebuild a team from fucking nothing. To even think about replacing this FO this year would completely and totally cripple the efforts of the total rebuild. Its basically starting all fucking over again.

Do yourself a favor and stop watching the games, or if you do want to continue to watch them do so with the understanding this team literally won 1 fucking game last year, and started the season with a QB who was the youngest quarterback ever to start week 1. What did you expect? Ive said it 100 times, the 4-0 preseason jsut completely and totally ruined realistic expectations for this team

I'm usually the one who tries to stay as positive as possible, but it is hard for even me since they haven't shown any improvement at all on the offensive side of the ball. They make so many turnovers and penalties it is not funny. We should have on paper one of the best OLines and at times have shown flashes, but something is going to have to change for next season to get this team back on the path it should be on. Either Jackson will get more help (aka OC) or just increase the talent tenfold through the draft and/or free agency. Next season we have to show an improvement otherwise I don't think Haslem will stay still with this team and start firing people and start it all over again. He hasn't shown much patience in the past so I don't trust the top not to blow up this rebuild.

Well the basic beginning and end of it is you're gonna to have to tell your coaching hire/new regime two basic things

"We need to get winning quick"

"I don't want you to blow up this team. Keep as many players as possible on this team"

Now the latter is not as concerning because...what is there to really chase off? I mean the team is young...and unless a coach is an idiot...they're not going to cut a Jamie Collins or Jason McCourty type.

The absolute worst I expect would be for them to cut ties with a good number of the recievers, runningbacks and quarterbacks on this roster. That's a bout it. I don't think if we're picking number 1 overall that this coach is going to cozy up with Kizer, Kessler, or Hogan.

1-21 is ridiculous and inexcusable. They don't have to be this bad. No NFL team should be this bad. Doesn't matter what anyone says about Ray Farmer, the cupboards being bare, whatever. There is no excuse for 1-21.

Yeah again...this is bordering on expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers level bad.

But the difference is...that was an expansion team during the old days of NFL Football that predated a lot of sophisticated scouting.

For the Browns...in this era, with free agency...with everything available to them...with them being in the league for 18 years? There's just no excuse to have been this bad for 3 year straight.

The only team I could actively see TRYING to actually be this bad would be the Mike Brown-led Cincinnati Bengals. An organization that is notoriously cheap and doesn't even have an indoor practice facility.

I don't care how bad you think the talent level on this team is, coaches can LUCK into more than 1 win in 22 games in the NFL.

That, combined with the regression from week to week, the head scratching play calling/decision making, and this lands on Hue more than the F.O.

I hate this thread.

We will always be where we are if we change leadership every 2 years. I have not been impressed with Jackson thus far. His play calling makes me scratch my head and his use of time outs is maddening. But it helps to have good players too. We have some talent but the cupboard is still pretty bare.

I’m good with adding talent to the coaching staff and front office but not blowing it up. Do not do that!!!
