Game 1 | Celtics (0-0) @ Cavs (0-0) | Tuesday, October 17, 2017 | 8:00 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why are they hugging Kyrie? I don't like it TBH. Fuck him.
Heat of the moment. These guys have been through a lot together. And in the end, I bet LeBron (et. al.) see through Kyrie's pettiness. I'm sure they collectively shake their head at what he's doing. Tonight wasn't pretty, but they all know KI and the Celts aren't making significant noise in the EC.

Was just skimming through the game thread...had to laugh at this in the span of only a few minutes. Not laughing at either of you, just how nitpicked Lue is already being in GAME ONE with 3 new starters, and almost half of his rotation being new, and how he can't do anything right with anyone apparently.

Going to be a long, sloppy few weeks of play as we fine tune things and get stuff on film to fix and figure out...hope everyone understands that.
Shump isnt the 9th best guy on tge team. He should never play in tge 4th quarter of a close game.

Come on guys, every win always has to have a record amount of complaining.

I hate coming here sometimes because of that. It is like a win is a win in a first real game with half the guys never playing or any real system yet. I will take it and Boston does not suck like everyone says or as bad. Also they stepped up for Hayward and fought, credit given to them.

Even though Shump had the stupid play, it's obvious he's the best defensive option against Irving in those situations. He will continue to be until the backcourt is upgraded with defense in mind.

Sure wish Bradley had still been available to acquire in the Irving trade...

That was a really exciting final 2 minutes. The players embracing in the end was really cool.

We saw the best of Shump and the worst of Shump.

But to act like he didn't make some critically positive plays in this game(to go along with the bad ones) is looking the other way. That offensive rebound and outback late in the game was key.

Good:
1) This was bound to be a "feeling out" game for the Cavs.
2) Lebron hasn't played too much with the new lineup, there's a lot of chemistry missing still, and the rotation will take some time to get down just right.
3) Rose and Wade still can't shoot, but Rose was aggressive, and Wade showed a few flashes of his old chemistry with Lebron.
4) Despite all of the problems and uncertainty about rotations and chemistry, we still *won* our "feeling out" game. So, not too bad, all in all.
5) Lebron is still a bad dude. Passive at times, which he is wont to do these days, but still the best when he's going all-out.
6) I thought Crowder played a very good, understated game.

Bad:
1) Lue really made some questionable decisions, even considering the "feeling out" process.
2) How Shump got so many minutes in the critical stretches of the game, I have no idea.
3) The third quarter was a disaster without much playmaking or scoring, and Korver got eaten alive multiple possessions in a row without being taken out (he's not even someone you want in the game without the playmakers on the floor anyway).
4) Spacing doesn't look good starting Rose and Wade together.
5) Where are Love's shots? He, somehow, seemed even less involved than last year. Let's get some more action between Rose/Love and Wade/Love. This should develop throughout the season (hopefully).

Side note:
This game didn't make me feel better about Boston. Losing Hayward is devastating for them, and it might ultimately ruin their chances of taking us down in the playoff this season, but it's also giving their young players more opportunity and experience, and they look good already for being so young. Additionally, they now have the guy in Kyrie who can really scare you in the 4th quarter, which is something they've lacked in the past. I think they will ultimately be a worse team this year than last year without Hayward, but it's hard to deny they're going to be very good when the pieces all come together.

EDIT: Forgot to add Gordon Hayward's injury in the "bad" column. Man, I love that guy, and I hate to see that happen to anyone. Get better soon, dude.

Up 4 with 40 seconds, he should be on the floor...he is a decent defender, no? Probably our best PG defender too.

Terrible foul by him on the inbounds play, but Lue can't play for Shumpert. He also isn't throwing lazy passes for 17 turnovers.

A lot to clean up. Why anyone figured we'd be a well oiled machine tonight, coaching included, is besides me. Just be happy we put correctable mistakes on tape and came out with a win in the process.

We were lucky to win. And we almost lost because of some really odd (kind word for shitty) decisions by Lue.

Not ready to crucify the guy over one game, but it was pretty bizarre.

Also, the freezing of Love out, again, is going to be a fucking concern until they start utilizing him better consistently.

Yeah, first game, new players, blah, blah, but same coach and system, and we just still don't integrate him very well into games.

It's because we had an ENTIRE year last year of no system, "a win is a win," and shitty coaching.

Had that not been the case, then yes, I think many of us would be far more forgiving.
