New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Is Ray Donovan good? I think that one's next for me.

I've watched all but the newest 3 episodes. It's not a show I get excited to watch anymore. There are alot better shows out there to watch. There just alot of unlikable characters in the show that make it hard to watch. Like most good shows the characters have flaws but in Ray Donovan they don't seem to ever have any redeemable factors to them.

I never even made it through the first season. Just couldn't find any compelling reasons to watch it over a dozen other shows that are clearly better. I have enough shows in my backlog already that I don't need to suffer through mediocrity.

Wife and I really like Master of None.

Funny but some very poignant and real feeling scenes. Reminds me a lot of Louis, just a younger less crude version.

Been watching this show called Hap and Leonard. I believe it's on the Sundance channel, although I've just been watching it on the streaming site I use. It's pretty good. It stars James Purefoy and Michael Kenneth Williams as the titular Hap and Leonard. The show is basically a dark comic noir about two best friends in late 80's Texas. It's adapted from some novels that I haven't read, but each season is six episodes and tells a singular story.

I'd recommend it. Enjoying it a lot.

Sounds terrible.

It reminded me a lot of Justified. Not as good, on the whole, and they don't bring in nearly the range of amazing character actors that Justified always did, although each season is a bit more consistent since they are short and tell a singular story. The first season is about the two searching for a car that crashed into a river twenty years earlier after a heist where the drivers stole a million dollars. The second is about a string of black kids that go missing, with the cops not particularly giving a shit because, well, late 80's rural Texas.

Jimmi Simpson plays the bad guy in season one and he's fucking fantastic. He just seems like he was having an amazing time. Strange to see him go from a McPoyle on Always Sunny to a guy anchoring shows like this and Westworld.

And Michael K. Williams is always good. Nice to see him get the lead on a show after awesome performances on The Wire and Boardwalk Empire.

I watched it from when it first aired and stuck it out. They really seem give the most air time to the characters with the least complexity and you like the least.

I agree way too many good shows out there to jump into 5+ seasons of Ray Donovan. Try Shameless, Smilf, or White Famous if you are looking for a showtime tv show. The Knick is real good too and is only 2 season but Soderbergh decide to end it so it was written with a finale.

Shameless is great. All caught up on that, though.

The Knick is on my list, along with a billion other shows. Ugh.

Banshee was an awesome show that I'm sure a lot of people haven't seen. Just a hell of a lot of dumb fun, and violent as hell. Plus the one Amish chick is smoking hot and gets naked constantly.

I think The Expanse is up next for me because I just bought the new book and so finally getting around to watching the show seems fitting.

Better Things, I'm Sorry, Maron, and the Jim Gaffigan show are all similar to Louie and Master of None. All of those are good also. Each have their own flavor of comedy but are comedian written and starred in shows. I'm Sorry and the Jimmy Gaffigan show are more funny while Maron and Better things are a mix of comedy and drama.

I watched Banshee for one season and thought it was a fun show but not enough plot for me to go back to. I ended up watching Strike Back at the same time and liked that alot more.

I like Billions also, Brian Koppleman the shows co-creator, has a podcast called "the moment" on slate that is one of my favorite podcasts. He talks about billions alot on it and gives some behinds the scenes takes on production.

Thought Justified was fine but just couldn't get into it. Didn't really connect with anyone and I probably got into a couple other shows around that time.

There really is an unbelievable amount of great television right now. It's shocking really.

I loved Justified. Some of the best writing of any show I've ever seen, and the interactions between Boyd and Raylan were always incredible. Plus, as I mentioned, it was just a constant stream of awesome character actors coming in and hamming it up.

But yeah, there is a ton of great TV right now. I feel like every week I find out about a new show that's good to great that I've never heard of before.

Should I switch to Justified?

Should I switch to Justified?

Justified is amazing, so yes.

Fair warning, though...the first season can be a bit slow at times. It's more of a "case of the week" season than the ones that follow.

Season two is where the show really finds its footing.

I barely have a job and I can't think of how I could watch as much TV as you guys.
