New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll probably switch to it after watching the first two. One problem is sometimes the subtitles go by too fast. You also have to be more focused.

I didn't see your post about the show until after my post.

I finished episode eight last night. If this show sticks the landing, it'll probably end up in my all time top ten. It starts off a little slow and feeling very derivative of Stranger Things, but it shakes that off around the fourth episode and is just incredible from there on out. A few of the early twists are easy to see coming from a mile away, but man it throws you for some pretty crazy loops later.

I agree that subtitles require an added level of attention, but I just can't watch shows that are dubbed. Seeing the voices out of sync with the characters' mouths just kills it for me, and that's not even getting into how poor most dubs tend to be. The only downside to subtitled shows is that it's damn near impossible to watch them while eating a meal. :chuckle:

ETA: I also really like how this show doesn't just keep asking questions without ever giving answers like Lost (a show I've seen this compared to) did. It answers questions over the course of the season while constantly asking more to keep you engaged.

I've watched a lot of Chinese movies. You have to pay serious attention to not get lost and sometimes the subs are flying by at light speed.

Watching English dubs is offensive. Not only do the words not match the actors, you're robbing the actors of their performance. There's more to conveying words than the words themselves.

People complain that they go by fast, but your brain basically absorbs them after five minutes and you forget that you're reading. English dubs are essentially the work of Satan.

I've also noticed that some of the music in Dark really reminds me of the music from Chrono Trigger. Good choice to draw inspiration from, if that's indeed what happened.

I'm 6 episodes in now. I really, really like this show. Other people here should check it out.

I've been watching the most recent season of The Challenge where they put various former Challenge champs up against real athletes and celebrities, with the money going to a charity of the winner's choice. These MTV guys got Terrell Owens to throw a bitch fit and quit after three episodes. :chuckle:

The best exchange:
Owens - I didn't ask to be here.
CT - Well, I didn't burn seventy million dollars.

Shots fired.

I don't normally get into reality TV shows, but The Challenge is like crack to me.

Same. It's like survivor with drama.

I find I grow very attached to some of these people too, like they're characters on a drama. That obviously works because they bring people back from year to year. And they have such a large cast that any one person not being on the show doesn't really matter.

Finished season one of Dark. What an excellent show that was. I thought going in that it was going to be a single-season show. Guess I was wrong, because it leaves you with some pretty massive cliff-hangers. I thought the last two episodes were a bit weaker than the four through eight, but still a fantastic show with some excellent writing and a whole lot of interesting questions, some of which are answered over the course of the season and many of which are not. It's the first show I've watched in a while where I just had a strong desire to "just watch one more episode." Also kind of helped me take my mind off of what's going on with the pup, so that was welcome too.

Definitely the best show I've watched so far this year. Can't wait for season two.

I’ve been wondering if it was worth watching - thanks for the input. I’ve heard it’s unwatchable with the English dubbing. Did you use subtitles?

Edit: I’m a dumbass and probably should’ve scrolled up.

On another note: if you’re experiencing bad insomnia, check out “Wormwood” on Netflix. That should do the trick.

It follows a seriously intriguing story and I am a documentary nut at times so I was excited to watch. It just did nothing for me at least through the first episode.

Been watching this show called Hap and Leonard. I believe it's on the Sundance channel, although I've just been watching it on the streaming site I use. It's pretty good. It stars James Purefoy and Michael Kenneth Williams as the titular Hap and Leonard. The show is basically a dark comic noir about two best friends in late 80's Texas. It's adapted from some novels that I haven't read, but each season is six episodes and tells a singular story.

I'd recommend it. Enjoying it a lot.
