Welcome 8th Pick from Brooklyn

Meaningless poll, but lets play....where will the pick end up after the lottery?

Basically take everything you said and the opposite is what actually happened lol.

The cap might go up but only by a very small
Margin. There was a massive explosion for 2 years, promarily in the summer of 2016 which enabled GS to sign KD. The players union had the ability to opt for cap smoothing which would have been a gradual raise over time, but they were advised poorly and fucked up and didn’t opt for it basically just because the owners suggested it and they didn’t trust the owners.

Now they had one or two years of crazy bloated contracts , mostly for scrubs, destroyed competitive balance which also makes less teams likely to spend now because they know they can’t beat GS, and now we have a cap only increasing marginally and cap space is at an all time low this summer.

This will lead to plenty of good players being stuck on the minimum, restricted free agents or any non elite free agent is going to have a hard time getting a Big Long term deal. Lou Williams got an MLE deal when he probably deserves a lot more.

Players ended up fucking themselves long term. I don’t see the cap raising until they get the gambling stuff going

On the plus side, this whole ordeal will probably allow us to re-sign Rodney Hood in the 10-12 million range, which seems pretty fair to me. I can't imagine he'll get much more on the open market. Very few teams have cap space and, while he's a solid player, he's not a star.

He's going to be paid much less than players he is clearly better than. The guy is a hell of a scorer for a guy that isn't considered a star. Very few "role players" can score 30 + points per 100 possessions like Rodney is doing in his sleep playing for us.

Also, i'd like to add that only shit tier teams have cap space to offer LeBron. The truly attractive destinations for him for competitive reasons will have an extremely difficult time making it possible for him to join.

Lakers will give Hood a max after they strike out on everyone in free agency.

Would love to take the kawhi + Duncan route.

Keep the pick and develop a young potential star.

Not only does that save $$ in cap space since most in the league got overpaid in 2016, LBJ should hopefully now realize he can’t take the MIA with all old and out of ‘primed’ stars, as he ages, he needs to surround himself with younger, athletic talent that can be developed.

Would love an NBA ready player, Doncic if we get available, but I also love jaren Jackson jr.

Young core of hood, cedi, clarkson, nance jr, + BKN pick is exciting.

Nah last time they struck out they signed Timofey and Deng so my guess is they panic and max Isaiah Thomas and some old dude. Then in 2 years they give a team Lonzo to eat Isaiahs contract like when they gave Nets D'Angelo to eat Timofey.

Altman went Moneyball.....Utah freaked with Hood hitting RFA and figured they couldn't pay him based on recent comps. Find the undervalued assets before someone else does. It's all about the hustle.

Utah didn't seem to realize that with a flattened cap and albatross contracts that there aren't very many teams with room to make those sorts of huge deals that they expected Hood to get.

Cavs have an opportunity to lock all of these guys up at very team-friendly rates - especially as compared to TT, JR and Shump.

Chasing vets and dealing draft picks like Halloween candy aint sustainable. Altman is building for today but has an out if Bron flakes. Can't get much smarter than that.

They've got the robins. If the nets pick can be nurtured by Bron to be the next leader, this is a 10 year dynasty.

That’s what I’m saying . If this current unit makes the finals , I think it’s best to use the Bkn in the draft . Hopefully he turns out to be all star quality and will be in a team friendly rookie contract as well . Leaves room for flexilbty going in to next years deadline. Possibly unload TT Smith and or Korver for another young vet with upside .

You guys are wild. I’d much rather have Kyrie than the Brooklyn pick if Kyrie actually wanted to be here and would sign long term

Depends on where that pick goes. I really think Kyrie's defensive weaknesses are significant. Give me a choice between George Hill + Jaren Jackson v. Kyrie, and I go with Hill/Jackson 10 times out of 10. You do lose some offense, but gain three times that in defense.

And at a much, much cheaper cost.

Not sure about cheaper as I think hill is on Irving money. But I agree defense was ignored by griff and it's good to see some blue collar defense in the cavs. Hopefully they draft or trade the pick for 2 way talent

I wasn't clear that I meant moving forward -- Hill is going to come off that salary in a year, and likely can be resigned for less. Kyrie's salary is likely to balloon in two years.

You're totally right about that. We now have two-way players at the 1-4, and fairly long freaks who can switch easily. Altman...damn, they probably won't give him GM of the year because he's the new guy, but this is really amazing.

Can I ask why everyone is so impressed with Mo Bamba and Jaren Jackson. Y’all hype gods.
