Your 2018 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think I'd pick E-Gon over Gio. Gonzalez is a bit more versatile.

Yea no room for those guys with Fran-Lin and JRam and J-Kip and even YD manning the infield.. One has got to go.

I'm still annoyed Diaz was left off the playoff roster.

E-Gon vs Gio is a tough one.

E-Gon is a better safety valve in case of an injury with his versatility. And injuries have been a huge problem for this team in recent years.

But, this roster at its peak would be with Gio making late inning substitutions for defense. E-Gon isn't even seeing the field when it matters with this roster at its peak unless we're talking about pinch running.

And we're probably going to need this roster at its peak to win the World Series. So, I'm aiming for the high end and taking Gio.

Both are solid players, but hence why they added Stamets to the 40 man roster so that way they would at least have a defensive utility guy ready if need be. Both guys make sense, but at the same time, there is a good probability whoever doesn't make it will be traded elsewhere as well since teams always need those type of guys on a bench.

You don't think Gio's glove > anything E-Gon brings?

No, not at all. Its a battle of utility, and i like Erik's utility better. Erik Gonzalez is a very good defender himself, has more versatility and i like his bat more. Erik moved through the minors on his glove and he plays a legit SS, which as of right now Urshela does not. With the exception of defense @ 3b, everything Geo does Erik does just a bit better (utility, bat, quicks, ears). That menas more than the handful of games Geo would see @ 3b. I want my utility guy to have utility- and that guy to me is Erik.

Gonzalez can play 2B, SS, 3B, or corner OF. Urshela can play all infield positions. They both have that flexibility, so to me it comes down to Gonzalez having the better bat.

Don’t think you’ll see Urshela move from the left side of the infield, or Gio move to the outfield in big games. Also I’m more confident in Urshela’s bat, in big games. That’s not saying much at all though.

I agree with @RG.
Yandy comes before both of these guys and that should have been the case last postseason. And Gio/Erik is indeed a question of do you want the more versatile guy (Erik) or the less versatile but more consistent/reliable guy (Gio).

Gio may not score runs, but he sure as hell saves them.

Gio sure saved that one that went off his glove/foot against the Yankees in Game 4
